When you look at the big picture, Ford sells way more Ecoboost f150s than 5.0... they see the 5.0 sales dwindle at the hand of an increased price ecoboost motor. That teaches them that many more people are interested in ecoboost motor, hence that is the way to go to make more money. They even used this motor in their most prized sports car "GT"... In case you thought something else. We teach them that the ecoboost motor is the way to go with buying all these raptors with the ecoboost motor. From Ford's perspective ... They might as well just perfect the ecoboost motor, as that is what the people want in their eyes. They might have all this speculation, but wait for the ram TRX to see if it will truly take a share or flop. Yes their might be a small market for the v8 in a raptor, but the research and testing needed might not be worth it to Ford. Especially with what we the people teach them based on their sales with the ecoboost. I guess I am in the minority that would probably rather have the ecoboost anyway.

Thanks all

Ford sells more V6 trucks than anyone else sells trucks. More than 70% of F-150's come with a V6. Ford is definitely not worried about the V8-or-die crowd.

Ok, so the next question is where do you get more power from for the Gen 3 Raptor?? What happens when the king-of-the-hill factory truck aka the Gen 2 F150 Raptor gets passed up on power (ie.. the TRX)? Can the Ecoboost, or a version of it put out enough power with similar reliability to stay ahead?

Depends on your definition of "stay ahead". Ford has spent a decade refining the Raptor at production scale (save the two year layoff). By the time the TRX hits the pavement/dirt, Ford will have a 12-13 year advantage. There's not a chance Fiat will be able to immediately match what Ford has spent years building.

If you're talking strictly horsepower, torque, and sound... The TRX *may* have an edge. But that's only a small piece of what makes a Raptor a Raptor.

Fiat's strategy of, "Just slap a hellcat in it" hasn't played out so well thus far. So they have the truck with something to prove, not the Raptor.

Ok, so who really needs 'more' out of this truck? It's already faster than most on street, including some hi priced sports cars. I get you want the sound, so either sell your raptor, or make a recording and integrate into the audio system.

Wait, Ford already has it! It's in the Mustang!

This setup is ideal with the trans setup to keep in power band. and with a tune, you won't need to think about another motor. I bet most of the people talking about getting the V8 have never experienced the Gen 2 in dirt.. it's absolutely perfect. more torque/HP avail quick and with less effort than most V8's now.

Do people on this forum really think the Hellcat put a huge dent in Porche's sales just because the Hellcat has more horsepower?

Even if the TRX has a V8 with more horsepower, the Raptor will still be the king of offroad trucks. I have little doubt the TRX will offroad as well as the Hellcat corners.

That said, no doubt there are a large number of Raptor owners who only bought it because it looks cool and they will be won over by the TRX's body kit and HP numbers. But there is plenty of room for two very different trucks in this space. Ford has nothing to prove and doesn't need to compete with the TRX. They will be very different trucks.
