Entirely logical, but my point is that when it comes to audio and especially car audio, Harmann have expertise and manufacturing depth that frankly outclasses Sony. I think that for a given price point, Harmann can design and produce a better system. But we'll see soon enough.

I wonder how much leeway B&O has to improve the sound system?

Is the head unit Sony/B&O or is it Ford's Sync3?

I also assume Ford is not going to spend the money changing body and trim panels to suit B&O's preferences, so most likely B&O are restricted to the same number, size, and location of speakers as the Sony system.

And Ford's auto start/stop limits the stereo's power draw when the engine is off so they cannot use power as a differentiator either.

This is pure speculation on my part, but this upgrade could be as simple as a speaker swap between Sony and B&O. Maybe they make better speakers, but at the same price-point I assume it will be hard to tell the difference.

I think their limits are similar to what any after market shop would face, meaning I think they could make a pretty nice system if they were given the budget. Like you say, I think it comes down to what that budget is, and I agree that it likely comes down to choosing drivers & crossovers. Possibly the housings.

And as you said before, it's subjective. There are people on here who will pay big money for JL Audio but I personally find those to be like icepicks to my ears. And what I choose would probably be criticized as muddy and too heavy in the midrange by others. 100% I guarantee that there will be posts here bitching about the new system. Some people will expect too much and others just won't like the sound.

Considering that the number of speakers, their size, or their location is not changing, I'd expect minimal change from the Sony system. What you can expect is new speakers (slight improvement) of the same size in the same locations and a new amp/DSP and sub (most likely still an 8"). The head unit is not a Sony unit and will not change with the move to B&O. As for the OP question about wireless carplay, that has more to do with the Sync3 (which may or may not get an upgrade) than the change from Sony to B&O.

While I'm probably in the minority I don't think the Sony sounds that bad especially if you mix your own CDs like I do. I'm happy with it as a factory system.

But because Ford is a large automaker whose shareholders are concerned with profits, I would not expect too much difference in sound. But maybe you 18 owners will get a nice bonus. For your sake I hope you do.

Either way your going to get a awesome truck!
