Just started my truck up in 35F weather. Never heard this before. Blipped the throttle and it immediately stopped.

Is this the timing chain or wastegate rattle?

In my video it sound very harsh, but I had the phone stuck right in the engine compartment.

Listening to others wastegate rattle videos, it sounds awfully similar.

Blipping the throttle and it immediately stopping, leads me to believe hopefully it is not internal to the motor.

Yes, that is cam phaser failure. The reason sound goes away after throttle blip is because it forces a quick shot of oil on the phaser to lube it.

My engine clacking does not go away until the engine has thoroughly warmed up. Sitting for more than an hour and the clacking comes back.
Does a cam phaser replacement require head removal?
How extensive a repair is this?

Unfortunately I dont think mind is the wastegates, I was able to put my hand on one when it was happening the the noise didnt stop. Its also seems like it is coming from the very front of the engine.

Its going to Ford on Monday.

That’s not the wastegate rattle....

Yep I know. Won’t make the noise anymore now.

I’m fortunate enough the truck will be fixed and sold in the next week or so. Maybe try a f150 diesel or a 1500 duramax, this time.

I’m not stressing over it, been driving it all evening and it’s fine. Ford will take care of it and I will sell it and move on. No biggie.
