I can't see the next ford raptor sharing the identical bedsides, front end, and gen12's tail lights. This is the biggest reason the new gen Raptors aren't available to check out yet.....the engineers need to re-design the Raptor to 16' specs, hint- To GEN13's new body lines which ford always includes the new tail light and headlights into the design stages. To me, this picture reminds me of GM engineering. I'm sure the gen 2 Raptors would look very different and the weight saving won't be much unless The bedsides (which I can't see them doing) being made in aluminum but who knows....

LOL.. You do know what a 'Test mule' is, don't you? Do you really think those pictures in the OP is what the Raptor is going to look like?

Manufacturers have 'test' mules to hide the bodywork of the next design from the public. Cant believe some people dont understand this.

Don't be so quick to give up on Ford's engine options for the 2016 Raptor.

Ford has a Mustang GT350R that it's been testing using a motor derived from the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. It has slightly higher displacement and it puts out over 500HP using a flat-plane crank. It sounds fantastic.

When talking about trucks and more specifically the Raptor, isnt torque more important than HP? I am not saying anything bad about 500+ hp but i thought i remembered reading torque is the real magic numbers?

Absoeffinglootly!!! Thats the reason a turbo is better. the 6.2 hits its peak tq(430) at 4500 rpm, the turbo 3.5 hits peak tq(365) at 2500 rpm. That the stock v6 and stock 6.2.
They are testing a V6 now whit 400+hp and 450tq now.

Doubt it will happen as soon as everyone thinks. The rumour mill is strong especially with a Bronco successor. But for now you can build your very own non official Raptor via ADD :headbang:

It's way to early, these stories are only rumors right now. I don't think Ford will let much out on the next raptor for quite awhile.

Bingo! It is in Ford's interest to keep secrets and encourage speculation with silence. It's a marketing gimmick.

I don't think you can shave 1500 pounds off the Raptor with merely a smaller alloy block engine and alloy body panels. The only way to lose that much weight is to lighten the frame, and I just don't see them doing that. They'd catch hell from their target market, and they know it.

Like many, I don't foresee a V6, either. DezertRacer and M65D Raptor may be right - a turbocharged 5.0L. But if so, I think Ford would be inspired to update the 5.0L. Why put an old engine in a brand new truck? I don't know that much about the current 5.0L, but I'm thinking that independent intake and exhaust variable valve timing would be something that they might consider. What else might they do to it???

Is direct injection ready for prime time?
