I did my 2012 boards myself. Remove boards, coat with a good paint stripper and wrap in plastic overnight. Peel and scrape everything you can off then find a local sandblasting and have them finish anything you missed. Clean after blasting, use the Raptor liner brand, it is far superior to anything else on the market. Use their primer, let dry, then use the 2 part urethane raptor liner(on Amazon, comes with sprayer, all you need is a good air compressor) make sure you completely cover them top to bottom, side to side, except for mounting hole surface.
Let dry for at least 24hrs, I let mine cure for 72 before install. Used a thin film of black RTV on mounting pads when bolted up. I have had 0 issues with peeling since, even through harsh MI winters.
The issue with the factory coating is they don't completely cover the boards on the bottom, allows for water/salt to get in under the coating, causing peeling. If you cover them completely, there is no way for anything to get underneath the coating.
USE THE RAPTOR LINER, IT IS FAR SUPERIOR TO ANTHING ELSE ON THE MARKET
