I’m going to get a lot of heat for this and I don’t mean this to salt an open wound at all. —That said, the G1 Raptor has a somewhat undeserved rep for reliability; now that the HO Ecoboost has been in the field for 5 years, youre seeing more & more spectacular failures. Some well on and some at lower mileage.

unfortunately, now the 6.2 hard parts are getting tough to source. Secondary and aftermarket sources are questionabl, some good, some not.
the v8 & v6tt engines are both good, but not perfect power plants.

I’m genuinely sorry you’re going through this but you may need to bite the bullet on this repair. If it’s too big a nut, sell it in the strong Raptor market and get another one.

I’m going to start the the side note and then go to what I was actually going to say.

There is a lot of gen 1 vs gen 2 conversation going on lately. Not sure what is leading to that. A few things are true the 6.2 is not indestructible and the 3.5 HO is more durable than some think. The gen 1 truck is not 0-60 fast but when driven in manual mode and running hard can be plenty quick, think off road. The 3.5 isn’t as fuel efficient as a lot think but certainly can pull better mpg’s then a gen 1 (if driven correctly). A funny part is most take a gen 1 vs 2 conversation and boil it down to engine, but there are other differences, trans and lighter weight for example. The 6.2 may not seem as bad in a lighter truck with a 10 speed and the 3.5 may not be as awesome in the gen 1 truck type of thing. Also the heavier engine, assuming both engine weights are fully dressed, 160lbs is like 3% of the vehicle weight and I see plenty of gen2’s nose dive off jumps so it isn’t like they are that much better balanced.

To your point about parts getting harder to find. The gen 1 isn’t the greatest daily driver, mine is actually my weekend toy/off road rig. I think of mine like a hot rod, if it needs replaced it is getting upgraded. Think moving it closer to a “race truck” each time, louder/rougher etc. Now eventually that may mean an engine swap, trans swap, etc. I like the 6.2 but it isn’t perfect and there isn’t a great aftermarket like there is for some other engines.

Edit:

I wanted to respond thoughtfully since you thought you would get lit up

Another thought, the valves the rebuilder used may have an independent warranty. With a stock cam snapping valve heads off should not have been a problem.

I agree with every point you made, and think similarly.

The Jen Juan is a good, solid truck, so is the Jen Too. The mystique generated for the ’10-’14 Raptor engines was sort of like the Glock, or the Mac 10.

Anyone telling you the Glock or Mac10 never jam, never malfunction are straight up lying to you. Anyone telling you they are the most reliable things going hasn’t shot them enough. Now, that’s not to say they’re not excellent and having a stellar reputation for some factual elements - they are excellent and they do perform very well. They’re not perfect, they will malfunction and they do break just like any other handgund/subgun.

But their myth and mystique is internet lore that grew from fact.
And the Jen Too similarly has plenty of lore and mystique around it too, again springing from fact not necessarily directly related.

To the OP, my hope would be you don’t sink good money after bad if possible.

The odds of two engine issues back to back like that are, I don’t really know? Maybe you have a curse on you? I do believe you said it will mostly be covered under warranty so there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. To the point of keeping the Gen 1 going. It really bums me that it seems parts for 10 year old vehicles are getting harder and harder to come by. Doesn’t matter what it is these days, it’s so dang hard to keep it going. My StepDad had a ‘73 F250 until 2006 and he still sees it on the road to this day. My brother has my old ‘92 and just had the transmission rebuilt because 320k miles will put some wear on it. I would like to keep mine going for as long as possible, but parts for it seem hard to come by. If I’m not mistaken even the Gen 2 has some hard to find parts to keep it going. When exactly did we transition to a use it till it breaks the buy a new one society? Maybe if I also had a Gen 2 and Gen 3 in the driveway I could take some of my daily driving off my OG, lol!

Okay thanks for the replies, i have to work and have no had much time to look it over. Oil is still full. No oil in coolant res or radiator. I am going to check spark plugs when i have time. Vehicle has irratic idle and when u apply pressure to the gas petal sound increases. When got new reman engine everthing was replaced except the coil pack, plug wire and accesory belt and tensioner, alt and starter. Engine came with new head, block, oil pan water pump. All old wire harness was reused.

This is true story. A neighbor asked me to come over and look at his golf cart about a week ago. 2 stroke, no start. Starter engaged but it didn't "sound" like the armature was engaging. I could hear the starter motor turning but it didn't sound like the armature was engaging the flywheel. Man we jumped every connector I could find straight to the battery to no avail, finally just told him to take it to a dealer. He called me the next day and asked me if I would help him install a new starter, he just bought one. So we swapped it out, went to fire it up and NOTHING, same dang sound as before! So this time he assured me he was going to take it in. Which he did, and later called to tell me the engine was LOCKED up! They think a spark plug came apart and lodged in the cylinder, the flipp'n starter just couldn't turn it over!

I see you mention you reused the belt tensioner. Bare with me, is it POSSIBLE, you are hearing the belt tensioner squeal louder as you give it gas? Try taking the serp belt off for just a second and fire it up to see it's still loud. If something so stupid hadn't just stumped me I would never had suggested lookin at it this way!

For real. Transfer case or 10R80 parts. Even parts on the phaser list were taking a while.

one nice thing about the 3.5TT - there’s a cr@p ton of them. OTOH, there were a cr@p ton of 6.2’s at one point.

It feels a little strange, like they are already phased out even though both the 3.5HO and 6.2 are still being made. I get part shortages and what not, but it “feels” like they are not making them even though they are. Make sense or did I ramble too much? Lol

The whole concept of keeping spare parts has changed in all industries in the last decade or more. It costs a fortune to have parts sit on shelves awaiting customers orders. When I was a Hvac tech, we had our vans stocked to the top with all kinds of parts, but then the inventory was just costing too much to lug around, etc, it was cheaper to pass the cost off to the customer for more driving time to go pick up parts instead of having them readily available. That concept has been carried over into all service fields. Now, that gets us to Jeff Bezos and places like Amazon that make a killing on shipping charges, etc. Now you got me rambling on....................

Update, my mechanic got intouch with the warranty company and they require ford dealership to look at it. He gave it a quick look spark plugs are good. No oil in coolant, pulled the valve covers and they look good. He stated he thinks it is a rod bearing.
Was towed to local ford dealer on tuesday and they cant get to it for a month they are backed up. Service rep called and stated for them to look at the engine they would charge me 145 per hour for 5 hours of work. Not sure what is going on but my personal mechanic got a ref number from ford stating repairs and labor would be covered. I will reach out to the dealer after work for clarification
