Google for images of the B&O dash speakers in the Audi Q7 or new Cadillacs. You guys would really be freaking out about them.

Except those are real B&O speakers not some JBL speakers that Harman rebadged. Also those speakers rise out of the dash when in use and return to flush when turned off. They don't stay poking out all the time like a wart like in the F150. The also cost $5k. You can't even compare these two.

You're right, my '17 Escalade dash's perfect lines and flat, integrated center channel is horrible

I was referring to the CT6. The speakers are definitely not flush, and are higher quality than the Escalade system.

It is rather annoying how horrible the OEM system in the Escalade is...

Just looked up a pic of the CT6 center channel and IMO it actually looks pretty slick, especially compared to the F150's that might as well be a bluetooth speaker that's tossed up into the dash tray.

Either way it doesn't really matter, it is what it is - I'll be removing the stock center channel and redoing the entire system (when I finally get a Raptor).

The premium Bose in the new CT6 is a 34 speaker setup with the pop up center channel and a center in the back of the Center console for the rear passengers. I Still want to hear that one. Lol

B&O always does that type of design, it's part of their ID..

The salesperson lied to you, the B&O sounds way better than the Sony. Way better.

...

You are literally the first to say this. From sales people to new owners of 18s. Yet you have a 17..-

That new BOSE looks incredible. As for me, I'm just an old guy that probably doesn't care enough about my sound system that it really matters. As long as it is reasonably clear, I don't care if my windows shake!

Not sure about that, but using a speaker thar fits in the opening isn't unreasonable. Raising the grill to get clearance is the kind of solution you'd exoect from one of those $1 install shops, not a auto manufacturer. Calling it "clearly designed" is like calling the bolt on reverse lights on a Yugo brilliant enineering. Ford took possibly the laziest route to solving a simple problem.

Take the time to Google some images for B&O dash speakers. Across the board of car manufacturers, they definitely "clearly design" them to not sit flush. Just because you wouldn't have personally done it that way doesn't make it an afterthought or lazy engineering.

There is a difference between a motorized speaker that rises from the dash to allow the speaker to use the windshield as a folded horn for better acoustics (like a true B&O system) and taking what is essentially the same speaker grille and raising it 1/4" for clearance. Nothing about this is design. These speakers are retrofited into the exact locations as the Sony. They are not specifically designed into the interior for acoustics like other true B&O systems. Everything about the B&O Play in the F150 is an afterthought. They changed suppliers for speakers. Nothing more. I shouldn't call it lazy engineering as that implies that they calculated the best size snd location of the speakers. That simply isn't the case. I'm not sure that much effort went into the Sony system to begin with and it definitely wasn't the case for the switch to B&O. Most likely, Ford looked for the simplest locations to put speakers that didn't disrupt the interior design thru came up with. Then they called Sony and struck a deal for speakers that fit these locations. Queue 2017 and Ford calls Harnan and says they're looking for a new speaker supplier. Harman throws together some speakers in the sizes Ford specs. Then they find the only 3.5" they have is too tall. Ford makes a new grill that sticks up so the speaker fits. Problem solved.

I'm not sure why you're so set on trying to defend the speaker grill. Is it because you dumped your 2017 for a 2018 and desperately want to justify the purchase?

If B&O "clearly designed" this system, then they would have had to do it when Ford was designing the F150 for 2015. Otherwise, as I stated they simply supplied speakers in the sizes Ford requested to fit the speaker openings that were already there. It's a lazy fix because the new speaker didn't fit. Nothing more.
