the addition of port feeling may have been done to address the carbon fouling on the backside of intake valves

Port fueling only comes on under no boost engine operation otherwise you don't need direct injection. Direct injection is the whole reason they can keep compression ration high without pre detonation.

10R80 = 10 forward speed and 800lb/ft. Ford has rated their auto transmissions that way for decades.

This is what I assumed, as well.
