FYI, I reached out to Ford and they’re sending a tech out to my house to update mine under warranty…my ‘18 has 112K miles!
Edit: LoL.. my bad, they now want $230 to update my synch since it’s no longer under warranty.
Yeah, no…
Well, on top of phaser replacement #4 (will probably just build a new motor instead), I may soon be joining those who have had to replace their transmissions. Had the valve body replaced under warranty along with a fluid and filter change at the end of 2023, just before it went out of warranty...
@pastorwug was there a TSB or other reference for your phasers to be covered under the emissions warranty?
I’m about to embark on phaser replacement #4, but at 112K, my 2018MY truck is 12K miles out of the extended warranty...emissions should still be covered though.
That’s pretty much what mine looked like this last time… it usually has some on top that looks like that, but the bottom of the can looks like this:
…nasty stuff:
Funny you should mention that! We did just recently complete a detached garage build, with 16’ top plates on the walls specifically to install a lift:
I was going to do a 4-post lift with two jacking beams so I can store my track car, and still do tire swaps, brake jobs, etc., but now...
…also, I am pretty handy/mechanically inclined, and also a (retired) engineer, but I haven’t R&R’d a motor or transmission in years… And don’t really have the friend/fellow motor head network in place here at our new place to consider just diving in… But may do so anyway! LoL
Thanks @full-race geoff … great input.
Last ones were the HL3Z sprockets...there were some ML3Z gaskets, etc. listed on the printout from the dealership, but the sprockets were the old version according to the second page of my copy of the service writeup:
Weird that it only lists two, but...
…also, I noticed my coolant reservoir was low when I returned from the trip; it was halfway between the cold and hot full marks when I started the trip a couple weeks ago.
I topped it off, but will be watching it closely. There are no obvious leaks anywhere, so I suspect one of the turbo...
I assume they’re a direct swap, but don’t know for sure.
@full-race geoff did you consider that head option for your build?
Also, do y’all ever work with Tier One transmissions? Even though I just returned from a 5K round trip that took me through Phoenix on both legs, I’m starting to sense...
Not to hijack the thread, but now some gears are turning! That 4.1 block, plus Headgames heads, Coyote top end parts, etc. plus Full Race/Garrett turbos and cooling. Hmmm…
No pic, but just changed the oil after my road trip…. One nice surprise was that the blow by in the catch can was the cleanest I’ve ever seen on my truck. It’s usually a sludgy chocolate-milkshake looking mess, this time just a nice thin oil consistency; only ~20% full too vs. usually pushing...
@full-race geoff do you see the ”Gen 2.5” build up as something y’all might offer as an in-house swap at some point? Or is Headgames building the entire long block for y’all?
Any thoughts on Mountune’s long blocks?
I’m at 112K miles on my ‘18, and just got the phaser cold start rattle again...
Had my phasers replaced 3X under warranty (second time was just one bank), but just got “the cold start rattle” again a couple days ago near the end of a 4K mile road trip… 12K miles out of warranty now though.
Gonna go back and see what version Ford used on the third set of phasers put in last...
Finally home!
Hope I still have some gas in one of my dump cans, otherwise the 10-mile drive down the hill to the nearest gas station in town is gonna be an adventure!
Picked it up this morning and shocked at how smooth the ride is despite the HD springs … longer shackles offset the extra inch rise on the +3HDs. My stock springs were toast..completely de-arched and the shackles were binding pretty badly too.
Truck feels much more planted now too.
…and 600...
Picked up the +3HD springs at Deaver this morning. Really nice guys and total professionals… Was a little worried when I first saw the shop…thought I was walking into Sanford and Son’s for a minute! Yes, I’m that old…
…and drove them up to Montclair to have the tow assist mounts installed...
Bit of a thread necro, but I have the same one. It works great.
I actually unscrew the lower part of the catch can and empty it out at every oil change. Don’t know what y’all are doing to get clean oil in yours, but mine is a nasty smelling mess that looks like a chunky chocolate milkshake...
