Uhh.. if by a "deal" you mean, searching for weeks to MAYBE find a TRX at MSRP, then yes, deals can be had.
The vast, vast majority of dealers out there are selling TRXs for $10-$20k markup, some even more.
Then you have the folks flipping a TRX with 200-300 miles on it as "used" for 20k over...
I feel for you all who are waiting so patiently, I really do. Waiting sucks. But I hope you're internally managing expectations, because again, there is no way most/all of you are touching a Raptor for a long, long while.
Ford already announced that their Q2 production will be down fifty...
You aren't alone. My TRX arrives this week, and I know at least a few other FRF members have gone TRX route too.
My plan is the same: enjoy the V8, then reevaluate when/if the Raptor R ever makes an appearance.
I'm actually hoping the R is pushed back far enough to the first mid-cycle F150...
Bahaha. That's one way to beef up your reported numbers for Lightning reservations!
Can we all agree that the Gen 3 rollout has finally and fully transitioned to "ABSOLUTE CLOWN SHOW"?
I don't think anyone is complaining that it's truly underpowered. But in this world, it's evolve or die (ironic for dinosaur theme).
In that sense, the changes for the Gen 3 - mild power band adjustment and the artificial "trombone" exhaust - almost seem patronizing to a Raptor fan.
Mildly surprising, but I guess it doesn't matter from Ford's perspective.
An extra 20 HP isn't going to stop anyone who wants a V8 from buying a TRX, and it isn't going to win them any new business from other segments.
They are content to let the Raptor stand alone for now, and then compete...
I work in the steel industry. One of our major raw steel suppliers also sells to the automotive folks.
This supplier relayed that their automotive clients report having a backlog essentially stretching through 2022 at this point.
Prices are not going down any time soon. I think your estimate...
The three leather trim levels referenced are: 800A is black with (I can't remember) stitching, 801A is black with bronze stitching, and the 37s have the blue interior with Recaro seats.
The red trim in the TRX is a standalone option, as is the carbon fiber. The standard interior is black.
Just like, you know, Ford could have done. Oops.
This has already started to happen on this forum. Lots of "it's growing on me" and "it's not that bad" and "it totally looks darker in person" and "I swear blue and orange were my fave colors long before this" going on lately.
Previous iterations of Raptor interiors were different - the colors were used as accents, not the main event. Literally every surface in the G3 interior above the seat level is blue.
The all-blue seats, by themselves, MIGHT have been tolerable. But then add in blue dash, blue trim, blue door...
I voted "none" out of principle, but if I had to choose a color, orange will look the best with the interior. Would be a blast I'm sure to drive once, but could never do orange as a DD, unfortunately.
Not a chance.
There is only about $10k of room between a Gen 3 and a TRX (though TRX prices may rise significantly shortly with change to MY22).
As for the Lightning - a lot can happen between now and release. Don't bet on any pricing you're hearing now being intact at launch.
If you think you're getting a Raptor this year, you're dreaming.
It's not just chips. Every commodity is more expensive and facing unprecedented demand.
Ford dealers are empty, the plants are idling, and unfinished F150s sit in lots. And somehow Raptors are magically going to start rolling out...
How can the dealer possibly know his allocation for the R when it hasn't even been announced yet and won't be sold until at least next year? I think he's full of shit.
Edit to add: though I agree with your overall point on the markups - they will be insane, at least around the major metro areas.
I think the Lead Foot color is underwhelming because the trim is virtually the same color. Makes the truck look... unfinished, like it is waiting for it's real coat of paint.
That said, I do wish the trim pieces were black in general, as it just pops so much better than gray.
This is not my area of expertise, but my understanding is that Ram mandated full-time 4WD in the TRX due to concerns about the power constantly hitting just the rear axle.
For those smarter than me: is this legitimate, and if so, why wouldn't it also be a concern with the Raptor R?
