I've used that before. 3M MarHyde too. You must have never lived in the rust belt.

When I first got my truck 2 years ago I knew to expect some rusty crap underneath. I went to a really good local hardware store actually looking for the brush on rust converter and the owner turned me onto this spray. I had never seen it before either. I spent less than an hour doing some sanding, wiped everything down, pulled the stupid labels off the axle, and taped off some spots and sprayed it. It looked awesome. It says to wait 24 hours to topcoat. I only top coated (satin black) the diff and the axle, but everything stayed really nice long term.
I am going to buy a can and try it.

ive yet to see a single gen 3 without at least that much rust on it on the lot. Guess they just get peppered with salt or something on the convoys.
My '18 had 80k miles and didnt look anything like that, my '20 besides some weird bolts were rust free completely.

But anyway, it looks just like surface rust on those pics so some little prep and some black rustoleum will have that looking good, if the rest of the frame is good i wouldnt worry.
I guess timing is everything....I was lucky enough to get info on most of my components. Most of my components arrived in DRB around May/June Assembled July Delivered Aug 2022... mine has little to no Rust other than what happens naturally. This spring/Summer I plan on Undercoating myself

Barf. That crap may stop rust just fine- but it smells like a sheeps ass hole. No way I'm putting that on anything other than a $5K rust bucket that sits outside 24/7.

Glad OP has a happy ending and that it doesn't take forever to replace the rear. I got a bit paranoid hearing about the rust out there and I suppose most do not like mine. Either way I looked ASAP when I first got the truck! lol
