So what happens if they close the highways and roads off, due to snowfall? We're SOL?

M28 closes alot(We will not be on that road at all) but the roads we will be on more than likely won't be closed. They ussually don't close the county rds or others. But they will have a tremendous amount of snow fall on them if they are closing M28 or US41.

Sorry - didn't mean to worry you guys. Like Kanakry said there are plenty of ways to get around a closed highway. If one road closes it just means detour. No big deal. Heck the City of Hancock closes some roads permanently over winter simply because their too steep. I'm sure the MTU alum on here know the streets I'm talking about...and would never have ever attempted to enter said streets to goof around. :)

That sure would suck if they try and close the roads down on us. Then it will turn into a long day of drinking then for sure.
Absolutely!!!! Hahaha...

Better come prepared, in case we get snowed in. Although, Mythbusters already disproved that alchohol actually warms you up, LOL.

There are some that they don't close that can scare even the most experienced driver.

Sorry, I'm new on here but I'm at MTU and figured I would share some pics with you guys.

This is US41 in January 2011 near Tioga Creek, between Champion and M28. There is always a big storm when students are coming back from break. We were stopped for about an hour. The second pic is just a typical day along the canal. Anways, I look forward to seeing you guys roll through Houghton. I just hope there is way more snow than last year for you guys.

Totally agree with you Blue. I'm packing for this trip like I'm going winter camping. I'll have fuel, a stove, food, tent, sleeping bags and pads, snow shoes and so on, and so on, and so on.

Do I think I'll need a fraction of this stuff? No. But it gives me a chance to play with my gear.

And when we get stuck at a road closure for an hour... then what, build forts and have massive snowball fights? haha

Same here. No stove, but I plan on loading my Yeti with food/drink just in case. :patriot:

You know my stove is pretty efficient. I can melt a pot of snow pretty quick and get it all cooled down in about 10 minutes. So if we're changing a tire, I could have water ready for hot chocolate/tea/coffee in that time frame.
