did you get any noise? what about 4lo?

dunno greg if they replaced his solenoid then it would be more of his 4wd not engaging rather then the stuff that broke on our trucks.

better get that fixed beforehand your gonna need it in the snow.
on the other hand i fixed my IWE by removing the vacumm line and getting all the mud outta there, now it works just fine!

mines always made a cluck when switiching from 2wd to 4wd.
the clunks i had is when using the throttle in 4wd the front tires still spin but with a hair raising clunk over and over

If you have the truck running and the 4wd light does not come on, it means (most likely) the transfercase is not shifting into 4wd. The most likely culprit is the shift motor which a lot of people have used the hammer trick to get it to shift. I suppose it could be totally dead or internal parts to the transfercase, but that is a lot less likely.

The vacuum solenoid is part of the system that engages/disengages the front locking hubs (IWEs). If something is wrong with that the dash cluster will indicate 4wd, however, a noise would be heard from the front end if the IWEs are just partially or the front wheels may not turn at all if they were disengaged completely.

Aside from the clunk, no noise whatsoever. It does indicate it's in 4x4 high & 4x4 low respectively. There also seems to be more drag on the front end when engaged which would lead me to think at very least something is engaging, just not getting any power to the front. I'll keep you guys posted.

Trey, Frontier airline flies from Rhinelander which is less than an hour from the end point in watersmeet, MI. Its about 2 miles from my house. You could catch a ride back to Rhinelander airport with me if needed.

Not uncommon for electronic shift on the fly solenoid to hang up and not engage transfer case.
Also when you shut off the truck the vacuum bleeds off and the hubs lock. And can take some time for the hubs to unlock when you first start to drive. Moisture is another issue with these vacuum hubs, especially in cold weather. (if you can't tell I hate IWE vacuum system almost as much as recon)

Best way to check hubs is to raise front wheel and disconnect vacuum lines. The wheel should not spin freely and spin cv axle.. Attach a hand held vacuum pump an apply a vacuum to the hub.. The hub should unlock and cv axle should not spin with the wheel. I will have to look up vacuum range again. It should hold the vacuum until you release it. If it leaks down the iwe diaphragm is compromised and hub needs replaced.

Dude you seriously live close to our place. We're off K and Velvet Lake road, just east of Rifle road that runs along the back of the airport! Small world!

Crap. Gotta fly SWA so I can use my points...

I'm driving back to Minneapolis on Monday. If all else fails you could ride with my and my Dad back to MPLS and fly out of MSP. Though it's probably ~5.5 hours of sitting in the back seat.

Just curious if anybody knows of any other hotels near the Lac Vieux Casino? I didn't find much in looking around online. They only have smoking rooms left and my wife was not too thrilled about that. With her allergies I would probably not like it either. I already have a room booked there if all else fails. Might have to find a new co-driver if wife bails on me.

Here is another topic for discussion… IWE.

The IWE ensures that the Raptor has 4-wheel drive. I do not have much experience with this system, but it seems to be very sensitive and I don’t like it thus far. The good thing is that when it fails, it defaults such that it the front hubs engage. Meaning you will not lose 4-wheel drive. Ensuring that your 4-wheel drive system works the whole time will be crucial to finishing the run. But since so many people are traveling great distances, you may want to disengage the hubs before going home.
What can we do to ensure that we can recover from a potential failure of the IWE?
What would be some good tools / spare parts to have along?
What could we do to prevent a failure?
