GEN 2 Worth fixing ?

If the paint isn't chipping or chipped then the hood was probably dropped at the factory.

You might be able to clean the marks and apply clearbra across the hood to keep them from collecting dirt and showing.
You could also look at using Dr. Colorchip to fill in the small cracks after you clean it. I use it on all my vehicles for chip repair. Works great and then I would do what @MEATSWORD suggested and put some paint protection film to protect it.

It's an inexpensive solution and if it does get worse you can always look at a more detailed repair or replacement.

But I also agree .. if you choose to repair it don't go thru insurance. Not for a $400 repair.

Fiberglass parts have a Gelcoat finish sprayed into the mold first to get a smooth surface to paint over and not show any fiber strands through the surface. What it looks like to me is cracks in the gelcoat under the paint, but not in the fiberglass itself. Could be from an impact or maybe even a tool or rag left on the core support when someone closed the hood. Those can be ground & filled and then the whole hood will need to be repainted. I'd bet any competent body shop will tell you it isn't just paint cracks and will require more than just a repaint. Repaint only and the cracks will be gone at first, but will come back. Most body shops will give you a free estimate, take it to 2 or 3 of the better shops in town and see what they say. then at least you will know for sure.

If you can get the dealer to fill the gelcoat cracks, surface the area, and repaint the whole hood for $400, thats a steal. But I smell a bait & switch. Got to remember, car dealers have some of the slimiest people on the planet working there.

sorry but no. it would be part of your comprehension insurance. same type of coverage as if someone keys your door. insurance would cover it minus your deductible.....but you could expect your rates to go up.

Not to mention, you just wrote on a public forum your planned insurance fraud ....just sayin

I've never had an increase in premiums over a comprehensive coverage claim. Not saying it cannot happen.

Makes me wish I got ceramic coating that’s for sure might have saved it.

Assuming an impact is the actual cause of these cracks, ceramic coating would do nothing for you. It just makes the truck easier to clean and might give you marginal scratch protection from leaves and soft branches due to a bit lower friction and a slightly harder top coat. But that top coat is extremely thin.

The hood is fiberglass? Sure about that? Should be AL like the rest of it.

And regardless what it’s made out of, that should be on Ford’s dime not yours.

For comparison sake on my 2014 GMC the body matched painted bumper started chipping if you even looked @ it funny lol!! I showed the dealer pics of my 135k mile black G8 GT bumper that I traded in for the truck that had fewer chips
In it than my brand new truck had w/ 4000 miles on the clock.

They paid for a full respray, then I paid to have it covered in PPf
What is PPF? Can you give any details? I’m interested in treatments over top of the clear coat.

it’s all contextual, but yes, this happened to a friend. Admittedly, he had an .... abnormally high number comp claims, so within the span of a couple months the insurance company first added a surcharge to their policy, and subsequently cancelled it. For this? I would think this isn’t a big issue and it would probably slip under the radar but what if the damage is deeper than the surface?

This. A good body shop, willing to share photos and actual completed work will steer you right. The first collision I had with a deer ( that didn’t total the car ) was my first Mustang. I took it to the local shop, and they were happy to show some of their custom work in the bays, pics of repairs that were in the final stages along with those actual vehicles and their work spoke for itself.

To OPs original question... “worth fixing”?

I dont quite understand...

Not sure if it’s a 17’ 18’ or 19’ but we are still talking about a truck worth a minimum of $40k. Why is a $400 repair (or whatever it costs) a question?

We have people on this forum spending $2500 for ceramic coating, $5000 for protective film!
