I think there is a modem onboard for Ford Pass, and it's probably just a SMS type of device that allows Ford Pass to work. Will be very surprised if you can do much with it.

From what i understand the "wifi" option on the trucks now is to connect it to your home wifi for software updates.

Why would you want a hotspot in your truck that would cost more, basically it would be another SIM card and at least another 10/month to your phone bill, when you can use your phones built in hotspot.

Curiosity. My kids bring tablets for long trips. I know I can use my phone. I share data with my company so I thought this might be a good option.

I was reading about sync 3 and it's supposed to allow you to link your phone to use the 4g data. You can then link iPads or laptops to sync 3 to piggy back off your phones data. The MY18 is going to stop this feature to link your phone for the data and require you purchase data from a phone carrier.

They cannot stop you from using your phone as a hotspot

I had it on my Chevy and never used it. I guess technically I still have it but I don't currently have an active plan.

One feature that I won't miss if it's not there.

If this is something you really want, you can always just buy a hotspot and install it in your vehicle, then you can move it from vehicle to vehicle if you switch cars, etc. There are some that are cheap and designed for infrequent use, but if your are going to stream videos, etc, then it is going to get expensive.
