Novice here....is a tune a DYI project or should it be done professionally?

Going with a canned tune, such as SVC's, is a very simple install, about 10-15 minutes.

What happens is, we take your order, we send a calibration form for you to fill out (things like tire size, gear ratio, engine performance mods, etc...), after we recieve the calibration form, we have a tune "wrote" specifically for you. After which we load it onto a SCT tuning device (or if you already have one, we email the new tune file), and ship it off to you. Once you get it, its as simple as plugging in, and following the on screen instructions.

Let me know if theres any thing i can help you with.

Never an issue with 5* tunes here or with the SVC tunes we are currently running in both of our Raptors. I agree that if you stick with either 5* or SVC you are safe, as they stay within Fords safe parameters. Have recently taken both Raptors for warranty work at local Ford dealer and did not return either to stock tune. I have a very good relationship with my Ford dealer and always remind them not to do any PCM flash updates that may be available. No desire to even go back to stock tune even for a few days!

Ah nice. Explain "within ford's parameters" to me. I just recently got a handle on diesel world when my tuner was $1500 and 1000% illegal haha.

Safe fuel table strategies, MAF curves, timing, trans shift points, torque converter strategies, shift pressures and slip timers, rev limiters, knock sensors, cylinder head temperature protection. These are parameters and a couple safeguards off the top of my mind to mention some that both 5* and SVC calibrate safely and assure vital safeguards remain in place. I have had many conversations with both of them before using their tunes in both of our Raptors. Exactly why I did two data logs with SVC to develop my very aggressive SVC tunes we currently run in our Raptors. Jeff just wanted to be sure we stayed within safe parameters (especially timing) since I wanted to get so much more aggressive than original V2 tune.

So if I spent the money on the Ford ESP to cover the truck till just over a 100K, and for the next 6 years, then I should skip a tune if I want to keep the powertrain portion intact?

I have the ford premium care thing but still want a tuner. I'm really on the edge of buying one. My dealer said they are fine with it. I just wonder what can of worms I'm going to open when I load that tune in and that diod pops which shows ford the computer has been altered
