Why not just get an FX4 then mod it?

Depends on what your goal is. If its your DD that you rely on? No. Will it be more capable on a race course? Probably

Kind of a hijack, but I let all my friends who are in love with chevy talk so much shit about my purchase. One of them swears up and down that he could buy a Silverado 1500 and spend the money left over (comparison in pricing), to mod it and make a better truck.

I deny it all day long, but his idea of fun is "mud ridin" and he swears up and down that NASCAR is more difficult that Formula 1 racing. Is he purely ignorant, or is he right... not on the NASCAR thing, but the truck thing.

Is it possible to buy a truck that costs less, and spend as much money to equal it out to a Raptor's price to make it a better truck?

No. My truck had every option for $46k. When I truck shopped Every truck with comparable luxury stuff came in around $42k. That leaves $4k to do a full suspension system, tires, rims, etc. Its not possible. Then if he got a cheap truck and tried to do it, he is still missing all the electronics that back the raptor, downhill dec. ORM. electronic locker.

If ya don't need all the electronic helpers than yes he is 100% right about the truck when in desert. Then again I've never looked into Chevy pricing so I couldn't do a price comparison
