Why 700hp instead of 705hp?

How? The only thing that sounds reasonable is fiberglass hood and fenders. How much would that save? Or are they already fiberglass?
It’s all fiberglass now. I just had my drivers fender replaced.

A track model(for off road) with no tail gate, no backseat etc. Add roll cage. Now we are talking!

There a 1000 ways to save weight, lighter wheels and tires, thinner body panels, smaller and shorter bolts, lighter seats, thinner glass more aluminum etc…a pound here and there adds up.

The main reason the Raptor R is lighter is because it has aluminum body panels, and the only reason it has aluminum body panels is because every F150 has aluminum. The Raptor, and the TRX, are built mostly off of their main product line in order to save a ton on costs.

So could the TRX lower weight by tweaking things all over the place? Sure, but it will cost them a ton to do that just for the TRX, particularly on the currently shared parts not unique to the TRX.

I did not say it was going to be free. They knock 700lbs of the truck and raise the base price to 109k, might be a winning combination for them.

What I was really getting at, it will be hard for the TRX to ever compete with the heavier weight. Just adding HP won’t fix the handling issues.
Has Ford posted the MPG numbers yet?

I doubt they will worry about it to be honest. "2024 TRX, now lighter than before" isn't a great marketing slogan. And Ford didn't switch to aluminum to increase speed, they did it for better MPGs and avoid CAFE fees. Meanwhile, Ford and Chevy will be working on their EV trucks.

I doubt that they could do it for that. 700lb is more than shortening a few bolts and it sounds like the low-hanging fruit has been picked. The heaviest components, the frame and the drivetrain, aren't getting a lot lighter for cheap.

I highly doubt we’re gonna see a newer more updated TRX, except for maybe updates to infotainment. I believe the same for the R. These trucks are the end of the line, we only have 3 more years of production before draconian CAFE requirements. At that point they’ll all transition to some sort of hybrid setup.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a behind closed doors handshake deal between Ford and Ram, the TRX takes the hp, the Raptor takes the weight and travel, and they both stamp their spot in history as the best ICE trucks made.

That’s a whole different market. I don’t think the off road trucks will be EV anytime soon. Ford went after Jeep sales hard with the Bronco so fiat or whoever they are now, went after Raptor sales.

LOL Good point. A pissing match is a bad idea when the house is burning down.
