Who else has trouble with the built in garage door opener?

FWIW, we moved into a new house about a year ago. I spent an hour trying to program my Gen1 to the new OH openers but it would never take. I eventually talked to the overhead door installer and he said that since my truck was an '11, that it wouldn't work with a brand new opener. IIRC he said something inside the OH motors changed in '14-'15 and hence the lack of compatibility. He said I'd need something like DWH3 suggested above.

I had trouble with a number of them and my solution was to park the car outside the garage instead of in the garage when programming.
Did you try parking on driveway fully outside of garage?

Parking just outside the garage on the side of the opener.

I don’t have the remotes so I did it from the opener learn mode from the beginning. Press the learn button then run to the truck within 30 seconds and hold the homelink button till it flashes and garage door starts moving. Nope!

I did the same and it worked on my ‘17 Raptor.

I called Homelink and the guy ask me if I put a new battery in my remote. I said no. He politely told me I was stupid for not following the directions and said have a nice day. That’s all it took.

If you have led bulbs or tubes turn them off and see if it works had same issue mfr said some bulbs have a frequency that will cause issues,

LEDs have caused lots of reception issues for me, specifically at night when the LED landscape light are on...

We have the same issue with 2 different vehicles. LED generate a small EMF that messes with the reception, same as CFL. Had to switch to incandescent in the garage door opener, but if the exterior lights are on, you have to be at the door for the button to work. Paid $85 to learn that.

I have 2 seperate garage door units, one from genie and the other from overhead door. The genie unit synced up perfect and I have no issues with it. I tried the overhead door unit and it absolutely refuses to learn. This is a pain cause the unit controls the main garage doors which I mostly use. I was told to contact overhead to get the issue resolved but I've been so fed up, I didnt bother

Same issue with my 18 and a LiftMaster. I had to tried way too many times with no luck. Thankfully LiftMaster mentioned about LED lights causing a issue. Once I turned off the LED pathway lights I followed the programming instructions in the Ford manual and it worked the second attempt after I moved the truck back about 15 ft away from the garage door.

Strange that I could not get My 18 Jeep Wrangler to work no matter what I tried, thankfully the LiftMaster remote is somewhat small

I’m about to rip the visor off and throw it in the nearest retention pond. My non-Homelink garage door opener buttons simply refuse to pair up with my Liftmaster 8500w garage door opener (yellow learn button). Programmed just fine when my older opener with a purple button. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos and I know I’m doing the sequence right:

1. Hold 2 outside buttons until LEDs stay solid
2. Press learn button on opener
3. Hold down button you want to program until all LEDs flash rapidly
4. Let go and press the programmed button and the door should operate

What am I missing here - I programmed 2 BMWs in a matter of 30 seconds?

It is easier to use your old garage door opener/controller to program your truck. Almost impossible to do it from the motor.
