It's in the manual as a fallback option for how to program from the door opener directly if it will not learn from a remote. It was easy as long as you have 2 people or your arms are at least 6 foot long.
I don’t have the remotes so I did it from the opener learn mode from the beginning. Press the learn button then run to the truck within 30 seconds and hold the homelink button till it flashes and garage door starts moving. Nope!

My opener said to hold both buttons simultaneously, that's how I did it and it worked.

I had trouble with a number of them and my solution was to park the car outside the garage instead of in the garage when programming.
Did you try parking on driveway fully outside of garage?

Works with my Chamberlain doors. One is old and one is fairly new. My Ghost gate opener programmed too. I tried many different ways until one worked.

I've had the same issue with my garage door opener "learn button" routine. What I did is hold the button on the visor for about 10-15 seconds and it should blink. Then press and hold the button on a handheld opener while holding it close to the visor for about 10 seconds. You should see the light blink and it should work. What I ran in to is that I believe my opener can only handle hold a finite number of remotes that are paired at once. I have a keypad, 3 vehicles, handheld remote, and a Q Key.

Mine works even better than the handheld opener. My house is around 175’ from the street and the opener works great as the handheld one I have to be closer maybe 50’ for it to work.

Can't get my Gen2 to work, either. Tried from the remote and from the unit in the garage. Ended up giving up after 3 sessions and clipped the remote to the sun visor. Pretty annoying - Jeep and BMW hooked right up first try.

I didn't try to hold the unit button and the remote button at the same time. I might try that.
