I’m about to rip the visor off and throw it in the nearest retention pond. My non-Homelink garage door opener buttons simply refuse to pair up with my Liftmaster 8500w garage door opener (yellow learn button). Programmed just fine when my older opener with a purple button. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos and I know I’m doing the sequence right:

1. Hold 2 outside buttons until LEDs stay solid
2. Press learn button on opener
3. Hold down button you want to program until all LEDs flash rapidly
4. Let go and press the programmed button and the door should operate

What am I missing here - I programmed 2 BMWs in a matter of 30 seconds?

Have you tried the handheld remote and the learn button on the garage door motor? Try both and it should learn it

I had to buy a CAR2U repeater for both my garage door opener and my driveway gate opener. Everything worked perfect once I installed those.

I had to press the learn button on my opener unit while my buddy held the homelink button, then it worked. I tried a bunch of times with trying to make homelink learn from the opener remote and it just wouldn't work. Worked first time with the opener learn button.

Interesting, I couldn’t get them programmed either and just gave up.
I had no issue with programming them with my GEN1. Not sure what Ford changed.

It's in the manual as a fallback option for how to program from the door opener directly if it will not learn from a remote. It was easy as long as you have 2 people or your arms are at least 6 foot long.
