Hey so I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a whipple kit from JDM. Now without concern for warranty are these third party tunes such as JDM or livernois or lethal performance whomever, going to provide reliability as well? I want the number over 500rwhp but don't want motor issues either. I'm looking to go with a 3.250 pulley, 47 lb injectors, upgraded inter cooler (not the upgraded heat exchanger for $900) NGK spark plugs.

I had the whipple tune on my 2010, but I am using Jon Lund (lethal performance) on my 2013. I don't have the final tune yet but I can tell you right now the driveability is night and day. The Lund tune is so much better. I have the same setup you want 3.250 and 47lbs injectors. Not sure about horsepower. It should go on the dyno this week.

Your 2010 was a 6.2L as well I'm assuming? I've heard people from whipple say that these third party tuners are just throwing fuel and over riding 02 sensors… etc…. However, maybe they are saying this because they are more conservative. I am fine with an aggressive tune i just want it reliable

Why did you choose Lund? I have heard some good things about their tuning but their prices are higher and their kit doesn't have the smaller pulley.

My 2010 was a 6.2. Jon Lund does remote tuning. I have had 4 revisions so far and he is very fast returning the revisions. My truck feels like it has a lot more midrange power compared to the whipple. I don't think he has turned any o2s off. I know the whipple tune was pretty rich. Another thing I didn't like was having to send the computer back and forth for updates. My 2010 sit for 3 weeks waiting on whipple to get my computer back to me when they flashed it back to stock.

Sorry I was wrong on the pulley it is a 3.50. I bought the kit from SDHQ back in 2012 I think for my 2010. I just bought the tune from lethal performance.

Hey 996Turbo,
I want to double check with you, your running the 3.250 (3 1/4") pulley? Or did you mean 3.375 (3 3/8")?

Ah, never mined I see your correction.

All my ford vehicles have run custom tunes. Hell running a 5* tune now.

When I get the whipple my plan is to run the whipple tune for a few months just for the warranty so if something breaks at the beginning the warranty will cover it. Once I feel comfortable with the truck it will get thrown on the Dyno and tuned. Lucky enough that we have lots of great tuners down here in FL.

If you do go with a mail order tune with the whipple I would be sure to take it to a dyno and have it run with full AF / boost readings and make sure its safe. Not sure I would go much over 500rwhp on the stock short block.

now if you send in your pcm to whipple and have it calibrated is that tune now locked in? Or can you just use a handheld tuner and save the whipple tune as stock

Has anyone out there used JDM tunes?

whipple doesn't provide 3rd party tuning , they have the ford tune that is highly encrypted and you can't have it on you hand held device . if you install 3rd party tune you have to send them the pcm to return it to stock before the new tune. this information is accurate for today i was on the phone with them all morning .
