Sorry, just getting back to the show. Had the old flame suit in when I posted this one for sure. Seems i was about right, but i am always interested by a thread of this nature, so i thought i would add to the conversation by posting my situation. There is a bit more to the story, but the above is how I am viewing the situation.
I previously owned the above described 19. Bought it at what i may call the market low as a left over 19 in early 20 when there was tons of inventory. How I happened upon it is a different story for another day. I recall driving it home from the dealer from several hours away and hearing about the potential of COVID lockdowns. We all know how that went and with that, it wasn't driven much. As such, curiosity got the best of me and I started to watch values on these trucks and just kept driving my daily POS to keep miles low on the 19. Early 21 I ended up trading it for a 21 lariat order. I did give it up to the dealer to sell when he had a buyer at a pretty good time and waited till my 21 showed up 5 months later last fall. Got pretty lucky that mine was ordered and built when it was. That was nothing but luck. That put 20k in my hand with that transaction. I got a brand new lariat at a good price (made deal with actual rebates and real invoice pricing that are non existent today for the most part on lariats and above) and a good amount to put back in the bank. I always figured I could get back in a raptor whenever as i thought i did ok on that deal.
I have been watching the Gen 3 and Gen 2 market a bit. Called the dealer the other day that i worked with on above to see about raptor allocations and the chances of getting one before reading up here. Didnt have any allocations, but could get in line and see if it got picked up. I looked around and found the 22 above. The money left from the 19 sale would cover the trade difference to go from my current 21 lariat to the gen 3 22 talked about above.
So no, it is not really a straight trade as I left out the step in between. I am perhaps only doing this to justify getting back in a raptor. I am interested in the thoughts from gen 2 to gen 3. Gen 2 prices are crazy, often over original sticker for a used truck with reasonable miles. i even found some nice gen 1s with prices above original sticker. i recall seeing on another thread the only raptors to buy are new or 100k+mile used ones. I am thinking that makes sense....unless there is something I am missing. IF money isnt the issue, which good, bad or ugly, i am kinda thinking in my situation, it may not be, is there any reason not to go to a gen 3? The other options are, 1. do nothing, 2. maybe wait and see if the gen 2 or even gen 1 market goes down but i would guess the used market in general will go down as well and my trade wont be worth as much.
all 1st world problems, just sharing the thought experiment and looking for thoughts on the guys that went from gen 2 to 3.
