What would you do in this scenario? Self pay to get this dinger fixed, or would you go through insurance?

Assuming that my rates go up some, and the accident would be listed on my vehicle report, is it smarter just to self pay?

If it was mine, I would call a painless dent removal dude and have him take care of it for $100. It's in a good location if he needs access through the taillight. The scuffs could just be paint transfer and will probably polish out.

If it weren't aluminum, that would be a fine approach. But rolling dents out of aluminum is much more tricky than the former steel body.

I'd just pay to get it fixed. Going through insurance for something that's likely close to what your deductible is doesn't make sense given the hit you'll take on your premium and having it reported to carfax. The loss in residual value alone will be more than the repair bill, I bet.

I would pay for it. My wife a few years ago decided to let our F150 self park itself in the garage and tore the mirror off and dented the door. Basically hopped out of the truck with it still in gear. By the time I had to pay a $1K deductible I wasn't worth getting the insurance involved. You will end up paying for the damage 3 times claiming it against your insurance.

Sorry to see your truck messed up. Hopefully it won't cost to much to get it fixed.

Good luck!

Did your wife forget to push the self park button?

Exactly! It was pretty cool, got out of the truck and went into the house and a few seconds later she hears a crash in the garage. Went to go see what the noise was and the truck was parked in the garage, minus the passenger mirror and all the molding on the side of the garage door opening.

All was well.....She was safe!
