All of these semi active suspensions use a number of sensors to adjust the damping force in the shock. Mostly done by controlling bleed circuits. The valving configuration stays the same whether spoil, poppet, etc. So the modes are programmed with a specific 'duty cycle' and depending on the sensor input data that duty cycle is selected. Furthermore each mode can be assigned a min-max duty cycle which is helpful to prevent crossover between modes.
