Cupholder mod, and tore into the center column. Added in a small amount of sound dampening, but mostly eliminated any and all squeaks. Ahhh she rides so quiet squeak-free now - next, full sound dampening on the back wall and all 4 doors

Looks like what I need to do. Plus my lid makes noise from the latch mechanism. Drivers door makes a rubbing noise during winter. Wish ford would get better with design and build, so we would have less noises.

My 2018 was whisper quiet 35k miles until destroyed by a millennial distracted driver.

my 2020 just turned 3600 miles also no rattles or squeaks

tbh....admittedly a lil surprised b/c I have 801a’s & in general this gen Ford F-150 is fairly “plasticky” on the interior, w/ a lot of snap fit parts. When I swapped out the shifter on my 2018 had the center console pulled part & put back together didn’t develop any new squeaks either

anyhow- what’s the cup holder mod??

@codeman whats the cup holder mod?

At least on the 2020, Ford cheaped out on providing a cup holder with spring tensioners at the back of the center console. The stock cup holders are too large to hold anything smaller, and no soft rubber removable insert either in case of spills.

You can see the comparison to the stock one in the photo here. I purchased a cup holder from an F150 and swapped out just the cup portion. Just something small that was bugging me

It's pretty tough to not have squeaks and plastic creaks etc. when almost your entire panel assembly relies on cheap plastic snap-in pieces. For that entire center console component, there were 2 screws holding it in. That's it. A good 20 press-fit tabs, and 2 screws.

Consider yourself lucky if it didn't creak!

The other areas of squeaks and creaks are from the inside door handle covers, panels, the door seal is a poor fit which you can fix yourself with some flexible tubing etc. and on this 802A with the Recaro upgrade, that patterned material on the center console trim piece and around the vents etc. is textured/painted aluminum press-fit onto a plastic frame. If they didn't use enough double sided tape, you get little creaks in that too.

lol- i guess I’m not the only one that noticed some odd cheapo trim cuts in the 2020s....it’s very interesting to me b/c I went from a 2018 801a to 2020 801a w/ very similar msrp’s the 2018 being slightly higher mainly due to the moonroof & the step tailgate.

what they “added” to the 2020 801a that was omitted from 2018 801a that I notice: big diff is the larger customizable gauge cluster- looks nice but after using it some it’s not as cool as I thought- either way it’s nice that added to lower trim. They added the lane departure assist feature (maybe that’s standard on all now?) & pre-collision sensors, I didn’t have that on the 2018 but again while it’s nice it’s not really something I’d pay up for.

what I noticed they cheaped out on (maybe to help offset some of the more additional standard features in the 801a group) - the unique coordinated trim pieces on the top of the doors & the sliding center console lid - even on my 2018 801a these were finished in a real cool
Looking carbon fiber/reptile scale design that def added a lil flair/upscale touch- the 2020? I mean hell they may as well have just left it exact same texture/color as all the other trim it’s just cheap non-stylized satin look black basically, no design.

the “leather” seats- which were 2 tone w/ full leather on my 2018, now only black w/ perforated cloth on the bolsters- cheap. Cheap for cheaps sake w/ no Fs given for the obviousness of it to the prospective buyer- especially one like me that already had a 17 or 18 lol

I also notice no rubber band flexy grip things on the back cup holders- again really? Almost seems like it’d cost more to redesign & opt out of it from an assembly line standpoint - but I guess not. Dumb stuff to cheap out on IMHO- I’d trade the lane keep & collision warning for the full leather & nicer accent trim pieces

lastly- this I didn’t mind as much- they did away w/ the leather shift knob w/ stitching down the middle, looked nice, but if you’re like me & keep your hand on top of the shifter a lot while driving, that thin leather wears REAL fast & the palm sweat starts to make the stitching look crappy too....I swapped it out to a carbon fiber shifter for that sole reason on my 2018, & that CF shifter matched decently w/ the “carbon/scale look” accent trim on the truck. The 2020 just has an even cheaper faux leather solid shifter no stitching, which I still want to replace w/ a CF one, although it seems like it’ll look more outta place since there basically nothing else that looks remotely like it in the cabin
