That applies to shocks as well? I was always told that those can be done on jack stands, but leaf springs u bolts and related hardware needed to be done under load.

Anything with a load bearing bushing.

Here my take on the shocks . As with most repairs checking torque after driving a bit is mandatory . Putting it under load when it’s on stands with a jack or lowering on a block is just smart and makes it easier . You don’t necessarily have to put your wheels on . After driving and checking torque you don’t need to take the wheels off if your use a multiplier or similar. Why add another step ?

I'd love to see how you get 400+ ft-lbs on the lower front shock bolt with the truck on the ground. I've always tightened my shock bolts with no load and they've never come loose.
