That's the one problem with BD or any off road light really, aluminum housing and stainless screws. Just driving, the wind passing over the aluminum can create a small electrical charge aiding dissimilar metal corrosion. Water and or salt just exacerbate the corrosion. A stainless housing would help, wonder why no one has tried it.
I never saw the value in expensive lights, I've bought the cheap one's and they have worked for me. If one fails, I can replace it about ten folds of what some of the higher end brands cost. Some will argue about light output, but do you really need enough light to fry a cat at 100 yards?
For most people, uses, I don't disagree with your opinion on cheaper lights. I've found having a ton of expensive lights super helpful on off road night runs but honestly, that's just been a handful of times over the past decade. I do think BD amber lights for rear facing dust/chase lights are the best choice. Their high intensity pierces the dust better is than anything else I've seen.
