I'm gonna be in that same boat soon. 95yo mother, with 2 deadbeats living in her house, currently valued at over $1M but not maintained. It prolly will be sold as a teardown. The other 3 siblings and I won't subsidize them and they have no one else to blame for a lifetime of failure. Oh, and one of the deadbeats was a schoolteacher. Big surprise.

My mom's house is in bad condition also. While not worth the $1m range, it will bring in at least $100k. She wasn't able to maintain it either and needs to be cleaned out of her stuff, tear down to the walls and remodeled. It's perfect for someone who wants to remodel the way they want. I have one deadbeat brother, but he's in prison so he's not an issue at all. Hoepfully he never gets out because prison is the safest place for him and society as whole. He's 44 and has never worked a real job more thana couple months. He's in for a rude awakening if he does get out.

He called when mom was in the hospital and demanded to know when she was sending him money to "put on his books". I told him mom was sick and was not going to be able to until she was home. He then demanded that I give him money. Hell no, you're on your own.

Somebody has to tell them the Bank of Mom is closed, utilities aren't free either, and that after a couple decades of life a grown man really should be able to pay his own way. Come to think of it, that's something to ACTUALLY be proud of in June 2023. You know, maybe instead of celebrating 75 genders of modern adults being an unemployable and useless burden, we should be instead celebrating how MEN WITH JOBS keep the world running. In a previous life I used to be out the door and on the road by 4:30am everyday. And whenever I stopped for gas, pulled up at a red light, or passed another vehicle, it was always another guy or guys; going to work someplace. No rainbow bumper stickers, nobody in drag, just regular men doing regular jobs that keep the lights on and keep food in the 'fridge.

Time to give the bed some attention. Removed all hardware and drain covers, taped, and got the surface ready to paint. Best part, it's a free upgrade as I won the bed liner in the raffle at the last Raptor event I went too.

He's been officially notified the bank of mom AND dad have closed up shop for good. I'm working on getting her estate in order and unfortunately she left no will. I spoke with an attorney a few days ago and everything has to be split three ways between myself and my other two brothers. He's sending my brother in prison a letter that will outline everything. He is to cooperate 100% with me being the executor and cannot stall or disgree with anything.

If he cooperates 100% then he gets his 1/3rd, if he is uncooperative or does anything to hinder the settlement of the estate, then we file with a judge to get him removed as an heir since he's a felon, and he gets absolutely nothing. If we cannot get him removed as an heir, then myself and my other brother are 100% walking away from everything and we all get nothing.

Myself and my other brother are financially stable and want for nothing. Us two never planned on getting anything when mom passed away since we encouraged her to spend her money to have fun and enjoy her retirement. It would be nice to have 1/3rd of whatever the house sells for but it won't hurt us at all to walk away. The brother in prison would be put in a very bad position if he didn't have that money available when/if he got released. We hold all the cards. He can have a nice nest egg or NOTHING.

If he doesn't cooperate, then he won't even get the information and documents he needs to file claims on his portion of the few life insurance policies mom had. He can figure out that crap on his own.
