Yes it was a short trip and a gpx file was shared in the Facebook group. Many of us stopped at that lake for a photo opportunity in the past, so it was unfortunate that we were kicked out. Not a big deal, shit happens.

Mac was very clear up front that he was going to double back with some folks. You can’t get lost on that road; there were stock RAMs and Subaru Legacy’s driving by stuck Raptors (more on that later). I actually took the lead from the lake to Bailey and also had a high powered radio. The plan was to stop at Rustic Station, or just leave and do your own thing. I told you guys I was going inside to order something to go, and y’all were cool with it. Not even 2 min later everyone from the group started rolling out with your new group / friends.

Either way, no one was abandoned and lessons were learned. There were plenty of drivers with just as much gear and even more experience than you.

Ironically, the only incident was from your splinter group where someone lost a fender and a headlight along with getting 2 trucks stuck.

this was a short trip. thats the reason i wasnt sure i was coming. but i was told to get out of the house. as a local, you should have known that area was private property. instead the ranger comes out and forces everyone to leave. then everyone is scrambling to get out of there. when you left with your friends you took the knowledge of the area with you. sure we made it to bailey ok, but from what i rememeber is once we hit bailey, you were going to run more trails. there were plenty of people who wanted to keep going. instead, myself and my friends who came with me, had to take lead and try to find new areas to run since people were getting bored. when you say you are going someplace, you should go. not turn around in the middle and leave everyone. you said you waited 20min in the opposite direction, how about instead of waiting you turned around and met with the rest of the group? seriously waiting 20 and not seeing one truck, you kinda wonder..... since there were only 2 ways to go. i spoke to you before the run. i had the biggest radio there as well as all the tools needed to fix a truck or change a tire. so you wanted me to run in back. which was no problem. but when im waiting for all the trucks to leave and they are going in one direction, i followed.

That would match my truck then!

Im due for a flush here soon. May look into taking care of it and a few other items I have somewhat put off this summer.

People act like the cooling system is super sensitive and will wilt away and die if you dont take extra good care of it. Its pretty robust, put [preferably matching] fluid in if you're low, water in a pinch assuming you're not in a cold weather area, and preferably distilled if you can...

Flushing coolant can be time consuming but its very very easy.

Trust me I spent like... 7 years driving old/classic Land Rovers and Range Rovers, I know about bad cooling systems. The Raptor does not have a bad cooling system.

Funny you bring Land Rover. Wife had a 2015 LR4 that we had to add coolant to about every 3 months or so. Not really sure where it was going. No leaks that we could find, exhaust did not smell abnormal, etc.

So she learned her lesson and got into another Land Rover lol.

I think you have convinced me to do a flush this year.

he said he was going to run more trails AFTER we finished at the highway. not leave in the middle. would have been nice to know what other trails were around since some people drove quite a ways to get there. as fas as "splinter group" we were the last 5 remaining. we decided to backtrack to the beginning just for a little more dirt time. as far as the trucks getting stuck uphill in the snow, i had to coordinate getting them unstuck. and yeah, one guy slipped on the ice in the shade around a turn and hit a tree. broke his headlight and took of a fender trim. it happens. its just annoying that we had no local knowledge of the area once we got to the stopping point because everyone was gone. i am more than happy to help organize something, but i dont think its fair to everyone who showed up, that the lead person holding this gathering, disappears in the middle. if you all need or want help organizing, im all for it. i dont mind spending the time or the gas to prerun and get familiar with the area. why do you think i drive 17 hours to prerun an event and drive back again in a month. i enjoy meeting with other people and mingling, but a bit more on the trails would be nice. so for the next time you get something going again, please dont hesitate to reach out for help. but have to say, this last one was an unorganized mess.

Honestly, with those vehicles it can be anywhere from a small pinhole leak to head gaskets to a cracked ******* block. The pinnacle of their shittiness was the early L322 Range Rovers. Those things look decent enough, especially for being 20 years old now for the first MY. But god they were steaming piles. Same can be said for the 03-04 D2. Great looking truck ruined by a 40 year old buick engine bored out to its wits end. The Range Rover Classics and Defenders/Series trucks are much more robust if a bit archaic by this point... but shit I would definitely tear into a SWB RRC and throw an LS engine in there.

Anything older than like 1996 will have issues because its old. Anything in the BMW era will be problematic. Ford era Land Rovers drastically improve but weren't quite up to *****... it was Tata that put them on the right track tbh.

I'm the only owner of my truck and I've literally never once touched my coolant system after 71k miles; Being a second owner I don't blame you for wanting to establish a baseline but maybe just wait until you incorporate it into another job, unless you have reason to do so. I may get a bigger radiator since I live close to the desert, but other than that... I got no complaints.

Yellow it is then.
When did they discontinue the orange?
(Just asking)

Not 100% sure why.....here is a vid with all the coolant, Even though they say you can mix the old orange with the new yellow, I just opted to flush the sytem thoroughly and then add all new yellow....

that would be me, we used radio to inform everyone who left the beach to go right to continue, said it 4 times but probably not heard due to too much chatter on the radio as we all left, we waited for 20 mins just north of the lake on the side the trail

everyone made it to Bailey just fine, when we spoke on the phone I told u that it was short run and that I'd be going back in from the lake.

lol just wanted to clear this up a lil, I never ditched anyone and u finished the planned route when u got to Bailey or as u say the highway.

was just a Facebook, Non paid free meet and ride which I didn't know 24 raptors would show up to, it literally went from 12 to 22 the morning of and some showed up that didn't even mark they were going.

sorry AGAIN that u had a bad time, I know you said you didnt even want to be there in the first place so I appreciate you coming regardless

Mac,
Thanks for setting something up. Getting more raptors involved in the community and getting outdoors is important.

just a few comments:
As the raptor community we must be mindful that we are in a shared space. People are watching us and we should do everything we can to be respectful, helpful, and prepared.

I suggest for future runs we state expectations, and encourage everyone to have a radio. $45 on a radio is cheap insurance to help people coordinate on trail.
