I washed the bitch. Couldn't stand the whining any more. Yeah, yeah, she was covered in winter road goop - dirt, salt, sand - the usual. I didn't think much of it, having seen some pretty cool bikini photos of sandy women. You know the ones. So I thought the whining bitch just looked sexy and well used. No. She whined. She cried. She complained, and *******, and was driving me bazonkers. (It's a word.) So I pulled her out in the driveway, hosed her down in 45 degree weather, and washed her sorry ass. Blessed silence. Geeeeeze!

I will be interested in learning how it sounds. I installed a Flowmaster in a Datsun D21 Hardbody 4x4 many years ago, and the noise was punishing. Had to install a big resonator to keep from getting arrested.

This setup keeps the OEM resonator... very nice sound [emoji1303]

I ended up tearing apart the center console because I noticed the shifter indicator lights had gone out, which is actually pretty easy. Takes about 15 minutes once you know what you're doing.

The lights are 194 bulbs, I replaced them with old style bulbs but will be getting LEDs to replace them next weekend.

I need to do this myself. There is something loose on mine...if I smack the shifter the lights come on.

I noticed it about 3 days ago on my drive home, and it bugged me to no end.

Its super easy, you'll need a torx 27 and 20, a small flat screwdriver and about 30 minutes. I don't know the exact bulbs that are specified for that, but I had 194 bulbs on hand, so that is what went in.

Its worth taking that cover off just to clean up the spilled coffee alone!

Good info thanks. Probably knock it out tomorrow.

50w ballasts create a ton more heat than a 35w. So while its brighter, you run the risk of damaging the light housing.

So it comes down to, what is more light worth to you?

Both the EvoX 2.0 and D2S 4.0 projectors are rated to handle a bulb powered by a 50w ballast.

A 40+% improvement in lumens seems pretty solid to me?

I'm super apprehensive about swapping anything else into the stock housing. I don't want a bad pattern blinding other drivers or giving cops an excuse to pull me over.

Lumens aren't everything. Adding 40% lumens to the stock headlights doesnt do anything to change the pattern of light distribution, which I argue is very poor with the stock headlights.

For that reason I would recommend that buyers be very careful when putting an LED bulb into a stock halogen housing to do thorough light pattern testing to make sure that it isn't scattering those extra 40% of lumens into oncoming drivers eyes.

I haven't tried a LED bulb in the stock projector housings, but the pattern of light output of the stock projectors isn't very good, thus why you would be happy with the improvements offered from something like the D2S 4.0. The D2S 4.0 is very bright and has a very nice wide smooth light distribution, I suspect its the best bolt-in projector option for our trucks.

Installed my 3-SMD LED vanity bulbs. They don’t photograph well but they’re definitely brighter over stock. Not too shabby for eBay!

The bulbs are actually 74s it looks like upon further examination.

The LED replacement size is T5. The LEDs are meant to replace a few different sizes, and the size of bulbs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

The measured size of the bulb in millimeters is 17.5 x 4.5 x 4.5.

This is the part direct from Ford: https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/bulb-6357279-1

I agree that the stock cut offs for the OEM HIDs are very conservative (to avoid blinding oncoming drivers).

I also agree that putting LED bulbs in stock halogen housings is a **** move that should be illegal (oh, wait, I think it is).

From what I found when I researched for HID upgrades, the LS460 was the best for a wide pattern (which is primarily what I was after). But I wound up going a different route. Again, a set of Rigid DSS on the A-pillars makes any OEM headlight look silly. Plus you're still legal. And OEM reliable.

I'm just not into the "retrofit" game. Too much downside for too little upside.
