Is this normal?

Took a video of my brand new 2020 Raptor - has only seen road driving, and 1,000KM. This just sounds weird to me. It's coming from the top left behind the front grill, when looking at the truck head-on. Looks like there might be two small circular fans there from what I can tell? Only noticed at night so haven't been able to take a closer look.

Uploaded a video to YouTube, turn up the sound a bit for this one:

No. That sounds like the cam phaser.

Hmmm ... went out this morning to check again, and jumped out of the truck as soon as I turned the ignition on. The cooling flaps were adjusting closed, and closed while watching in front of the radiator - didn't make that noise at all this morning, just the usual hum of the engine with the slight valve train tapping which is normal.

The sound is constant, when it's warmer out / the engine is warm it seems.

Does anyone know what the two circular components are, between the movable cooling flaps, and the radiator? I couldn't get a photo of it because the flaps were closed (cold day today) but attached a photo with the location. Seems like those are making noise. Are they some sort of small fans perhaps?

The region you point to is where two round horns are located.

This engine doesn’t have valve train noise. Mine is like a sewing machine and quiet. The chatter you may be hearing when cold and which can last for a few minutes, is the waste gates. Until they heat up from the exhaust, they chatter. But should go perfectly quiet.

Weird - so definitely not the cause of that noise. The noise was coming directly from that area though strangely. Maybe there's a piece of plastic flapping around hitting the radiator fan? I didn't notice any real fan noise when I turned the vehicle on. Maybe I'll take another sound recording of the engine cold ... it's not noisy cold, I would describe it as a sewing machine sound as well; great description.

Have to figure out what the heck that chatter in my video from last night is and reproduce it.

Audio recordings from a noisy engine bay in general, are hard to diagnose. Unless we are listening for a loud clicking or knocking. Go ahead and try again. If I can help I will. Otherwise you may need the dealer.

It sounds like it may be related to the cooling fans, since it does it only when warm and noise is coming from behind the grille. There are two fans; one on the passenger side and one on the drivers side. With the engine cold and the ignition OFF, I would recommend turning both fans by hand to see if you can duplicate a noise. It may be as simple as an adjustment to an air deflector to prevent it from touching the blades. If the fan makes a sound but nothing it touching it, at least you will know what to tell the dealer when they write it up.

Hilarious .... I found the issue! Doh :emotions122:

Piece of tape that must've fallen off one of the wires found its way to the rim of the rad fan on the passenger side. Sounds better now to me ...
