Wanted to post up yet another water leak story. Its amazing how this truck leaks in all kinds of places. The message boards are littered with stories. I hope mine will help someone.
Found water on top of passenger side rubber floor mat, below it and up under the glove box. It even leaked down to the side of car underneath the sill plates and water was running from front to back. Tropical storm hit florida and got a ton of rain. I pull my glove box off and checked cabin air filter and it was soaked.
The front where windshield is and the black cowl has 2 different drains.
The 2 red X's are not where the air intake is for the AC through the firewall and has nothin to do with it. There is box below these thats sealed from these grates except where the windshield meets. Water runs down the windshield and gets under neath the rubber where windshield is (see red arrow). I guess ford thought not a lot of water would get through there even though its not glued down. Water that gets in from that area collects here
Notice that tiny little hole on the left, Ford thought that would be adequate for drainage. Dirt and debris collect in there and clog it up. Once water gets trapped that compartment fills up with water and that is also where air is coming in through the cabin filter. I used compressed air and a coat hangar and cleaned it out. Then poured water in there (by the windshield wipers) to flush it. I also sealed my cabin air filter cover with silicon faucet grease that never dries but would theoretically stop a small amount of water. I also put a towel underneath the cabin filter and just left it behind the glove box in case it happens again. I will check it often and any sign the towel gets wet I know to fix again.
My car was in for service 3 weeks ago and I told them i heard the AC fan making a funny noise. They said they replaced the fan but they are full of it because they would have seen the water starting to be caught in there.
