There's no way in hell an OEM could get away with atmospheric PCV venting. All vapors are piped back in to be burned. Emissions aren't just what comes out the tailpipe.
That’s what I was saying. Since the intake charge has the PCV vapors, a VTA BOV would have emissions consideration that I hadn’t thought about.

Ladies & Gents,

If you read my original post, I am not judging folks who do the BOV VTA mod. I provided my perspective and acknowledged my biases, based on my profession where I look at risk/reward for mechanical devices.

The repetitive “whoosh”, “whoosh”—to sound like an STI or modded race vehicle got old in 2 days. There was no reward vs. potential risk (for me).

For an approx $70k truck under warranty—please understand, the fact that swapping back/forth to stock in case of a Ford warranty issue—is a valid concern to me.

Folks who are afraid of composite oil pans, but bootleg mod a vehicle (different risk/reward values).

Spend your money and take your chances. For $35, noise making, potential risk, I’d rather not.

Same. I don’t think they’re bad just unnecessary for me. The intake lets me hear the wonderful turbo noises enough for my tastes.

So the BOV is actually a bypass valve. It flows in both directions. When under light throttle the valve opens and allows air to bypass the turbos for better fuel economy. When you cork off the filtered air line going to the bypass valve, it will suck in unfiltered air during low load situations. Just one more consideration before doing this mod. Putting in an aftermarket blow off valve solves that problem (only flows one way) and gives the whoosh sound. Jus one more thing to consider!

Bypass valves are not usually bi-directional, it just means that it recirculates the blow-off. Where did you hear that this one is bi-directional? I’m not sure that is accurate.

Isis,

I am no Ford Engineer, but am confident that the OEM bypass valve (whether electronic or mechanical) is uni-directional (outflow only). It to my understanding OEM is a sealed system by design.

100% support the aftermarket, but fascinated as I work for an OEM in a different industry which develops/relies on sophisticated software to identify end-user adjustments via sensors/software in expensive equipment.

I’m an engineer for an oem in vehicle controls and power electronics. I’ve never heard of a BOV or BPV being Bi-directional. Just the physics of it wouldn’t do the job it’s intended to do. That’s why I’m curious where this info came from.
