A lot of guys here have the Icom F5021. There are vendors and others on the forum who sell those packaged and can preprogram commonly used frequencies for runs. You'll find used ones for sale on the forum as well. I have a Yaesu 7900.

If you're going to be transmitting on ham bands you should get licensed. It's $15 and an easy test.

If you use the search, there are a lot of threads to get more info.

You have to do license course even if I just want to have the walkie-talkie for off-road?

You do not need a license to PURCHASE it or Receive (listen). .

BUT, YOU DO NEED A FCC LICENSE TO TRANSMIT
~ FCC = :secret: i'm watchin' you

Transmitting on a MURS frequency with MORE THAN 2 watts of power doesn't meet FCC requirements. The hand helds often used are 5 watts and radios mounted in vehicles are often 50-60 watts. So, even if you have a HAM license, you're breaking the law when using a MURS frequency with the BaoFeng hand helds and pretty much all truck mounted radios.

I'm not judging folks for using radios that don't meet FCC regulations. Just stating the facts as I understand them.

Got mine done today. Jason @glre hooked me up with all the fancy stuff I needed. Looks pretty good I think.

I credit a lot of this to @cbfreshness and @orangeaddict for locations as well as this thread and the good folks at snoball that let me "shop" in their trucks.

I have mine above the nav...

The mic is routed below, by my right leg... mounted on the side of the console. Location is great for hearing the traffic, very loud even above the music.

What's that little screen read out where the trailer break goes boss?
