try calling River Oaks stereo and see what they will tell you. are you planning on doing this yourself? If not just try and find a trustworthy stereo store in Carolina.

it depends on the radio the ufh is shorter but all events use the vhf. Your best bet is to go to a local radio shop and ask questions. look at at least 2 before you decide good luck.

Kenwood Big Boy!

Wanted to be able to reach out and touch people, and because we were sponsored by Kenwood, it made my choice of radio easy.

I chose the Kenwood TK-790 (100 watts) along with the P.C.I. Intercomm. Here's how I mounted it up. The main unit is under the back seat. I also ran the Kenwood noise filter.

Don't have the mic attached usually because I use the intercomm most of the time. I like how the headsets cut out a lot of unecessary background noise.

With all due respect. SCREW Rugged. Those guys are ****** bags.

Definitely not going to do it myself I for sure do not know what I am doing

For VHF only, you need an NMO mount (magnetic is decent). Hole in the roof is better. and an NMO base antenna. Get your antenna as high up as possible (on your roof). 1/4 wave is about 18" or 5/8 wave which is about 48". They both have their benefits. 5/8 has more range, 1/4 doesn't bang trees and parking garages as bad.

Dual band antennas to look at.
High Gain Dual Band Antennas : The Antenna Farm, Your two way radio source

Quarter Wave Dual Band Antennas : The Antenna Farm, Your two way radio source

VHF only antennas to look at.

The radio install isn't that bad. It needs to be wired directly to your battery for best results. Did you buy the radio already modified to TX on all frequencies? If not your going to need to clip out a diode to make it TX on the freqs used by the Runs. Google Icom IC-2820H Mod to learn how to do it.

If you need any help, feel free to PM me.

Also. The 2820h is a ton of radio. Unless you're planning on becoming a HAM, it's far more than you will ever use. I'm assuming you picked that one because of the detachable face? I have the ICOM 880-H and it was about 200 less with a bunch of the same features.

As far as programming, you can download software from ICON for free for that radio, and buy a cable online. But the good thing about that model is that you can field tune to whatever frequency that falls within the radios range. So you don't really have to program it at all, except for convenience.

Trey,

Can you use Innercom with the Icom 880-h?
