Because you'll be screaming, "But mine sounds cooler!" at the TTV6 that blows past you at 8,000ft?

I've honestly never understood sound being included in the same narrative as performance. Sound is an emotional reaction, and should be categorized with choices like paint color and carbon fiber trim.

A turbo might perform better at elevation. No denying that really. I wasn’t directly referring to performance, just saying that the v6 isn’t better in every way. This was just one example.

How do the ecoboost engines get around the problem of direct injection fouling the intake valves over time? It’s an honest question. I don’t know the answer. They may have solved this problem. If they haven’t though, it’s one really big reason to stay away from ecoboost.

Most of us don't race other people on public roads, therefore the delta in ultimate acceleration rates means jack shit to us. I seriously cannot remember the last time I floored my truck- it's simply not necessary. I've driven a tuned Gen 2 truck and it was faster than my stock Gen 1 for sure, but I found no desire to own it whatsoever based upon that- basically because it was still very slow in the grand scheme of things. Yes, it's fast for a truck, but it's still dog ass slow compared to something designed to actually go fast. As long as my truck has enough power to do what I need it to do- I'm fine with that. My ego would not be dented it you whistled past or blew past. I'm not 25 years old anymore.

I will say that if I drove at 8000+ ft elevation as mentioned, or even 5000+ ft elevations on a regular basis, I likely would prefer the turbo V6, but we are below 1000 feet everywhere around here, mostly in the 600 to 700 ft range. The hit a N/A engine takes at elevation versus a turbo engine is a huge deal.

It's not tied to performance, but sound is one of our five basic senses- and the second most important after vision. To dismiss it as "an emotional reaction" is simply asinine. You'd be OK with living next to an airport runway? You down to listen to thumping bass all day from your neighbors? How about listening to sitar music all day? Bagpipes? Yappie dogs? You want your woman to sound like a 70 yr old smoker? You think the current V6 Formula 1 cars sound good compared to the V8s they had from 2006 to 2013? If I had the choice (and I did) I'd buy the truck that sounds good to my ears and not the one that sounds annoying.

Second gen EB 3.5L has an injector that sprays fuel into the manifold as well as the DI system. It's not just there to only clean the valves, but it's a very good side affect of having it.

So I think you agree with me then? My point wasn't that sound has no relevance to vehicle choice, it was that engine performance and sound are mutually exclusive, and I don't understand those who couple the two. If you want to purchase a vehicle based on sound, that's your choice and I won't fault you at all.

Anyway, I think ultimately if I had to decide between the 3.5L HO TTV6 and an NA V8, I'd take the former hands down. If you could combine the two (performance of the 3.5 and sound of the v8, at the price of the 3.5), then sign me up. But since you can't, my choice is performance > sound.

the EB has its disadvantages. more than just sound, fuel economy, etc.

yes, the 3.5 trucks are faster. BUT, they are also near impossible to drive as smoothly as a gen1 with that big set of testicles known as the 6.2.

Me? I'm kind of over waiting and am working with a smart person on how we'll make a v8 swap into a REAL raptor easy. We'll see how the project goes. Hopefully we figure some things out and have something to show everyone by february.

I doubt it will devalue the Gen 2s, so many people love them. IF Ford does make a SE 5.2 SC Raptor it will be so limited that it wont effect the 3.5s resale.

BUT that could change if Ram does produce its competitor and/or Ford ditches the 3.5 for a V8 (which I don't see happening, they're all in on EB).

Not necessarily the 707HP beast, but a Baja style truck with several Hemi engine options to choose from (up to the 707) and that awesome interior they already have. In my opinion that would cut Raptor sales in half... at least, and flood the used market with Raptors.

So... the TRX may pose a bigger threat to Raptor resale value than a V8 Raptor.
