I appreciate all the speculation, comparisons on resale value, etc.

But really, as the second poster to this thread posted so eloquently via GIF, this topic is more beaten than a government mule.

If the Ford GT can get buy for a mere half million, if you can even get one for that, with a 6 cylinder, so can I in my Raptor.

My 6 cylinder twin scroll turbo Macan pulled my approx 1600 pound trailer way better than my V8 VW Touareg ever did.

Has anyone else considered the fact that the Raptor is a very good selling vehicle for Ford, its a lucrative vehicle too w/ the lofty MSRP. Sure they could sell a "super raptor" V8 w/ crazy HP for more $$$$ but how much more MARGIN relative to a HO3.5 Raptor? Not sure it would pad their wallets much more after factoring in the cost of R&D on the new engine to offset, it would probably have to be @ least $20k more to make any sense. And IMHO Ford would probably like to sell 10k $65k raptors than 3k $85k Raptors - not to mention, there are still CAFE standards in place, and there are people (like myself) who DD the Raptor all the time - while I can swallow low gas mileage in a Truck, I think a blown V8 in this truck would be an unreal gas guzzler - probably worse than a gen1 & that would dissuade some buyers regardless of the price premium + it would put a dent in Ford's overall mpg average especially if it were to be the ONLY Raptor version available. You take a vehicle that's already not super practical & make it even more so. You'll be getting worse mileage than a diesel w/ 1/4 the capability (payload/tow wise) & @ the same price point & then some. It'd be like a Ford GT really, like a halo type vehicle if it ever does get made.

Fairly convinced at this point we won't see a V8 Raptor in this bodystyle if ever.

Not sure why all the desire anyhow, I went to the Raptor to try something different & get AWAY from a traditional V8......especially when (hope this doesn't offend the Ford fanboys) I would place Ford's V8 engines somewhere in the lower tier of competitors like Toyota/Hyundai/Nissan.......GM & Dodge V8>>>>>>>>>> all day long & been that way for a long time. The 5.0 coyote motor was their best attempt in a LONG time even so from a quality/reliability/durability standpoint it sure as shit aint no LS1
It makes sense IF you offer the V8 (FI) in the last year or two of the Raptors life. At that point you are trying to get 2017-2018ish buyers a reason to buy another Raptor. Those early adopters were mostly the ones that paid ADMs and would most likely be the ones who would get excited enough to upgrade after a few years. It’s a move out of the corvette play book. You have a base model that sells well the first few years, then as sales taper off you bring in the Z06/ZR1 model to help sales out. A lot of those Z06 buyers were guys who traded in their 3 year old base vettes. If the Z06 was never offered, they would have just kept their base model Vette.


I think the amount of people who never bought a gen 2 Raptor because they were holding out for a V8 is extremely small if basically non existent.

According to the 2020 Ford Fleet pamphlet, there is no V8 for the Raptor. Let's give this ******** a rest already.

I think RAM could steal a big portion of Raptor owners if they make the TRX. Not necessarily the 707HP beast, but a Baja style truck with several Hemi engine options to choose from (up to the 707) and that awesome interior they already have. In my opinion that would cut Raptor sales in half... at least, and flood the used market with Raptors.

So... the TRX may pose a bigger threat to Raptor resale value than a V8 Raptor.

I'll admit I've said it multiple times since my wife bought her Jeep SRT, If i could have a RAM version of my gen 1 raptor with that awesome 6.4 Hemi I'd trade my truck in lol. the interior is awesome, the engine and VF8 transmission is builtproof. I love driving her Jeep, it's so much fun! plus I'm betting the 6.4 with 485hp would have 2 to 5 mpg better than the 3.5 Raptor. considering my wife's SRT is rated at 15 combined MPG yet it averages 20.

Too many Ram guys think...the Rebel is our competition

man have you seen that TFLTruck episode on youtube where they talk about trying to build a Raptor competitor out of a Rebel? :anitoof:.. then they put a leveling kit on the RAM! it competes with the Trailboss not our trucks.. I don't get their logic on Rebel vs Raptor.

While the Ram limited has a very nice interior, the current Rebel trim is pretty lame (minus the huge screen). The red accents and tire tread imprints on the seats are super tacky IMO. I would hope they change that up in the TRX.

Anyone...and I mean ANYONE that would trade off MPG, Torque and HP for sound needs to really re-evaluate their lives and the insanity of their point of view. The term "All show no go" would apply for sure. It's sad how many people would actually trade in their Ecoboost for something that just sounds better. If Ford does decide to put in a V8 either in 2020 or beyond I sure hope they improve all three components MPG,Torque AND HP. Hopefully it would be a Gen3 with other upgrades as well. Simply going to a V8 for the sake of sound would be the most stupid thing ever and Ford isn't stupid even if some of their owners that prefer sound over performance are.

Your v6 truck sounds like a lawnmower and it really doesn’t get much better gas mileage. If at all.

Trucks aren’t fast anyway. Who cares about 0-60 in a pickup?

The whole reason this thread exists is because dudes with v6 turbos are worried no one will want their trucks if Ford drops a real engine in the new model. Their insecurities are justified.

People won’t trade in just for sound. Gen 3 v8 will be an all around better truck. Still, it’ll be a huge relief they no longer have to accept the v6 compromise no one ever wanted in the first place.

I’ve had my trolling fun for a while. It’s too easy and people are so sensitive about their little engine.

There’s no replacement for... you know the rest.

While there are plenty of posts from people that can’t wait for a V-8, wish they had a V-8, want the sound of a V-8 etc., I must be in the total minority. I wanted a Raptor since the first day they were released, but I could never justify driving a truck that gets somewhere around 11 miles per gallon. I drive 15 to 20,000 miles a year and that certainly adds up. It is a totally different story for people that don’t use their truck as a daily driver. I for one am thrilled with my truck and very thankful that Ford was able to deliver performance, reliability, and acceptable fuel economy. For the rest of you, I hope Ford delivers the V8 that you guys all want.
