Upgraded Transmission Pan

Didn't see much after a search. I'm considering upgrading to a larger pan with a drain plug to make fluid changes easier while increasing cooling. Anyone upgrade to a PML, PPE, AFE, pan? Looks like you need to do some modifications to the skidplate and heat shields to get the PML to fit. Any feedback? Share the knowledge!

Bump for the same question… Now that I’ve rolled over 100K miles, and officially out of even the extended warranty, it’s time to invest more into better preventive maintenance and related hardware.

A few options out there, but I’m leaning towards this one from PPE.

I did the PML on my Raptor. They have a shallow and a deep pan available. shallow pan will fit the oem skid plate. the deep pan will not fit the oem skid plate, but the Ford Performance skid plate fit with no issues. deep pan holds 2 more quarts than the stock pan. lmk if you have any more questions.

This is the one where you have to drop the t case to get in correct?

From what I can see, it looks like you only need to drop the cross member, or at least unbolt the trans and jack up the tail so the back of the pan will clear the cross member as you pull it out.

Also likes like you need to disconnect the cooler on ‘19+ models.

Do you plan on driving your truck 500k miles? Seems like a lot to work & waste of $$$, recommended tranny fluid swap is 100k, i think that’s too long, drive it real hard 40-50k intervals, personally i had dealer swap it around 65-70k miles

They charged me $194.25 all in w/ labor & fluids…that pan is $320 & doesn’t fit right, I’ll definitely keep the truck long enough for 1 more trans fluid swap….2 would be a stretch. Personally doesn’t seem like a mod worth doing & I also don’t see tranny temps being an issue whether I’m driving hard or towing etc, engine temps/upgraded IC? Sure.

I have the ford performance rear diff cover & that I guess is similar idea but is way easier to install, increase fluid capacity, is readily visible & looks cool, & the rear diff fluid is something that requires much more frequent changes

I plan to keep this truck forever; or until Ford decides to make another SCAB Raptor.

Will go through the truck as stuff needs to be replaced, and upgrade where it makes sense to do so. Cooling and other fluid management systems, as well as the drivetrain, will get extra attention to accommodate power increases down the road.

Don’t want to go too crazy with this one since I truly enjoy it in stock form, but will upgrade where it makes sense to do so for long-term reliability and ease of maintenance.

Agree…but while it was under warranty, I wasn’t gonna mess with any major components. They went into my transmission 2-3 times trying to fix a hard shift issue, finally resolved by replacing a couple controllers and some other bits inside the case, so I got a couple ‘free’ trans fluid changes out of the deal.

Now that it’s 100% on my dime, I’m gonna make it easier to do routine maintenance/fluid changes. Same reason I did the diff cover.

Edit: I do see, and acknowledge the point that for the frequency of trans services (every 50K is probably overkill), just keeping the stock pan in place makes a lot of sense. Will do more research, but still leaning towards a replacement pan that allows me to just change fluid every 20K or so miles without dropping the pan, but pulling it to swap the filter every 75-100K miles.

Hell, by that point the trans will almost certainly be due a rebuild anyway, and would be a lot easier to just swap the pan while the trans is out of the truck.

You really need to change the filter EVERY fluid change, so the drain plug is worthless, except in your head. That also applies somewhat to the rear differential as well. The drain plug equipped cover is not needed or desired. You always need to wipe away as much as you can of the sludge, debris, and crud coating literally everything inside the case.

Of course, its your money, so…
