Upgraded IWE

If a full time hub was available for the Raptor would you upgrade?

It wouldn't, I was under the assumption that the IWE solenoid operated during remote start. This would allow more than enough time for sufficient vacuum to build. Since the IWE solenoid is not powered until key on, this would contribute to some of the issue. I know I remote start my truck and jump in and take off almost everyday in winter. Which would explain some of the damage to "new IWE" (never turned on 4wd).

I don't have my truck yet to see how the IWE solenoid is integrated, but would there be a way to get it to activate with the remote start? That way no matter what it would always have at least a couple mins to build vacuum and disengage.

I know its a small part of a bigger problem, but if it could be halfway easy to convert to turn on, on remote start, then why not?

It is turned on through both body control module and power train modules. I haven't looked into a work around to this issue. I will add it to my list the next time I am poking around.

Quick follow up..
There are two wires on the IWE one is an "always" hot from the central junction box (fuse box) and the ground goes to the power train control module. All the power train module checks is the state of shifter and 4wd selector. When it is switched to 4wd the circuit is complete causing valve to close releasing the vacuum. So it is something else causing the vacuum to not build.. Like something in the emission system that is not turning on with remote start.

According to one of my friends Ford did test a "stronger" IWE specifically for Torsen equipped vehicles. It had a hardened locking ring and stronger spring to help mitigate increased wear of the IWE. Which it did, to the point instead of wearing down the locking ring teeth it was shearing the teeth off the hub and axle. The bean counters made the decision the original design was lesser of two evils due to being less expensive warranty repair than axle/hub/differential.
Last year Snoball event when we went to SVT and I specifically asked Jamal about weak IWE.. His response was "we can only strengthen (think he used beef up) parts so far". The upgraded IWE was what he was specifically talking about and the extra cost of everything else associated to front drive line.

so how about redesigning the vacuum to a different set up. It sounds like that is the main cause of why it's always in a wear situation. I still think an electric solenoid open close is better than vacuum leak. If the electric part quits it's open or closed and could be set up to manually over ride.

I am working on that also, but it requires more than just swapping out locking collar. The first version is for those hard core Raptor owners that want full 4wd and not worrying about mpg. Version 2 is going to take longer do to the operating conditions, getting the components to fit with in the limited space. Possibly modifying the IWE housing to accommodate shift fork, pivot, etc.. Currently there is no viable electronic solenoid actuator in the market that will fit our application. I am scribbling ideas and looking at other parts from other 4wd vehicles to work.
