Actually Ford did the bare minimum on gauge wire, kinda wish they would of spent the extra dollar and upped the gauge.

Yes you can run a 40" on SW3 or even SW4 if you use a relay and use proper gauge wire. The Aux switch just turns the relay on/off then the light plugs into the relay and ground. I was running my 40" on SW4 but recently combined my 40" and 30" on SW2, still using the relay for 30".

they dont skimp on wire. they cant afford to. they used wire rated for the amperage of the switches.

Heat and distance is a factor too especially when you are running wire to the back of the truck. All I am saying is they used the bare minimum for the amp and gauge. It would have been nice if they used something a tad heavier to account for variables.
