GEN 2 Undercoating

Search on here for threads about Amsoil MPHD - you'll find a thread that was super popular buy a guy (Unfortunately he passed away) and I can't remember his name. He did an amazing job of scientifically testing all the products on the market. MPHD has been on my truck since it was about 2 weeks old and I'm about to apply again. My frame still beads water like it was waxed yesterday and is black as the day it came from the factory one year later only after one application. This stuff is basically invisible unlike lineX which is a rough texture and more than likely gets dirt and grime in the nooks and crannies and looks like shit after a while.

I bought a case from Freedom Motorsports and probably used 2 and a half cans out of 12. I gave one can away to a friend and still have tons left for the future.

Clean the frame like you mean it, let it dry and take your time masking off the shocks. It will turn them kinda yellow if you get overspray on anything that isn't black. Watch out for the front undertray. You don't want a yellow tint on that or on the lower control arms. That will look like crap.

I also sprayed my entire rear axle and the leaf springs and the driveshaft and my truck has none of that surface rust.

I took a couple cans of Duplicolor spray on bed liner and covered the bottom of the bed, wheel wells and cross members as best I could. Its held up great for the last two winters. Its the cheapest method in my opinion.

Seems like AMS Oil is popular stuff. I just don't have the means to do this myself. Can anyone recommend a shop [or suggest shops or treatments to stay away from? I want to get her protected before the New England winter. Also--anyone clear coating their shocks for the same reason?

I’ve put 3 coats of AMSOIL HDMP on my truck. You can lie down and get under the truck no problem (I’m a bigger dude) and spray away.

It will run a bit but it dries and “hardens” very quickly. The little straw that comes with the can helps tremendously. You really can’t hurt anything spraying this stuff under the truck.

My axle, diff and springs are sprayed as well. Looks brand new.

I have only seen it online. Freedom Motorsports sells them. I have a full case here just outside Manchester NH if you want to make the trip up. Will give you however many cans you want for cost.

I’m in MA & used the Amsoil HDMP as well- gotta get it from amsoil directly I believe. I got my truck in mid Feb didn’t end up treating it until late spring so took a little elbow grease to get it cleaned/prepped beforehand. Basically just used dawn liquid soap & warm water w/ rags. Waited 4-5 hrs to dry & also blew w/ compressed air.

I sprayed the rear diff/axles w/ gloss black rustoleum HD spray paint. When that was dry they got coated in the amsoil as well.

I think I used 5 cans initially & plan on having my local mechanic shop use a couple cans to touch up before winter set in.

Spray it deep inside the frame too

For the bare AL a-arms & the shocks/springs as well as engine I’m going to use Yamalube protectant spray - it’s what I use on my waverunner to protect it from salt water use. You can spray that stuff on anything electrical connectors/plugs & plastic covers clips or rubber- doesn’t matter. Is def runnier than the amsoil & wont dry to as thick a coating, but goes on clear & gives a nice sheen to everything repels dirt/dust/water etc I’m gonna do it before winter as well.

I coated mine with Amsoil HDMP the same week I bought it. Stuff works great. I used to spend a half hour hosing down the undercarriage everytime I got back from the beach and it still had rust. With my new truck I never hose it off after the beach and it looks like brand new underneath.
