Turning off the TPMS

Anyone know how to turn off the tire pressure monitoring system or how to adjust the PSI at which point it says "low pressure"? After taking my truck to a scale and getting the axle weights I built a load line based off the specs on the tires (assuming linear properties) and came up with a 28psi for the front and 22psi for the rear for empty weight. Tried the pressures out and the truck rides like a dream! But now that damn TPMS keeps popping up showing low pressure.

Any help would be appreciated.

There isn't any way to modify the tpms.

But I have to say that's way to low of tire pressure for running on the street, you're going to ruin your tires and you risk popping the bead of the rim.

I think I understand what your trying to say about weight capacity of the tire but that's only legal highway speed and max air pressure ( I think it's 60 psi.). If you make a hard turn at speed the outside front tire will have to carry a lot of weight almost half the weight of the truck, it's physics.

I personally would not go below 38 psi. For regular street driving.
And you can do that without the warning popping up.

I agree with needing a higher on-road pressure.

I got the warning in cold weather with a pressure of 42#. Went away when the tire warmed up some more though.

If you REALLY want that light gone....

1- Remove your TPMS Sensors
2 - Install 4 regular valve stems in your wheels and run at whatever pressure you want.
3 - Install 1 of your TPMS sensors in your spare in place of the existing valve stem.
4 - Drill 3 holes in your spare wheel, then install your remaining 3 TPMS sensors in that same wheel. So all 4 sensors will be in your spare.
5 - Air the spare up to 44 psi, the sensors will all read 44 and you will be good to go.

Here's the trick that works for me every time.
Using a very accurate tire gauge!!!

You need to get to 40 psi without the warning going off, then you air down a 1 psi. drive the five miles till the tpms learns. Then another 1 psi. untill you reach 38 psi.

The thing is if it drops more than two to three psi. in a drive cycle this warns the system.
I've gone down too 33psi. before it lit up.

Unfortunately it' not just the idiot symbol it's also your information screen won't shut up.

You could always just buy the tool to reset the TPMS to where you want it. They are only $15, and it is really not that hard, however, I lean to following design specs.

Pretty sure the dealership can use an IDS VCM II and flash the ECU for whatever TPMS range you need. GM vehicles use the Tech II and have the same results.

To get it done only way is write your local congressman and ask them to have a law written so you can change it.
