Also worth looking in the used market. I found a couple less than one year old Raptors with all the bells and whistles. Cuz it’s a Raptor, need to have it carefully checked out if you’re not particularly mechanical yourself. I found a 2018 with 7k miles, 11 months old, clean as a whistle, completely loaded and even had some desirable add ones (Baja behind grill lights and Rigid fogs) which was $16k cheaper than what the 2019 was brand new. Was very tempted though admit I bought brand new. If I was a little bit tight for money, I’d have easily pulled the trigger on that used Raptor. I think there are lots of folks out there that like the idea of a big-dog Raptor but these city-slickers find it’s not so practical Downtown. You can find some real gems out there but again, must be careful!

San Antonio is notorious for vehicle thefts, specifically Ford Raptors are high targets.

I’d highly recommend getting the Jimmi Jammer plates, punch plugs, and lock cylinder delete setup installed on your truck and replacing your handles with rear handles. Our friends over at Line-X of San Antonio/Alamo Truck Gear do this on a very regular basis and are pros at it. I can send you their contact info if you’d like and make an introduction.

Additionally, I’d look at keeping your keys in an RFID blocking box if your keys are left near your vehicle when parked.

You may also ask the guys about a vehicle immobilizer being installed. I like Ravelco, and the guys at Line-X of SA/Alamo Truck Gear will install those as well.

Hi everyone,


My 2014 Sierra Denali was stolen 2 days ago. I bought the truck new in Aug of 2014. It had the 6.2 engine and really enjoyed it. I guess it’s time to move on as I do not believe they will find it.

After 20 days the insurance company will cut me a check for the cash value and I plan to buy either a 2020 Raptor, GMC AT4, or a Chevy Trail Boss. I’ve always wanted a Raptor and even considered one before my Denali but at the time the mark ups were so high I could not afford one. Now that I’m further in my career and dealers seem to sale below MSRP I can now see myself purchasing one.

Few Questions:

I’m in San Antonio, Texas. Can you all recommend a dealer that I should work with and is known to offer a great price? I’m willing to travel if needed.

How much off sticker should I expect and shoot for?

What packages/options are a must in your opinion?

The V6 worries me. Should it? Still packs a punch?

Can't help with the dealer.

Internet search is your friend for price especially if you're willing to drive a ways.
Don't be shy using advertised prices against dealers in your area.

For me the 802A and tech package was a must but I couldn't help checking every box and getting every option.
Try the configurator on Ford.com to see all the options and what makes sense for you.

The V6 is amazing. 450hp and 510lbs of torque speaks for itself. Change oil regularly and it will last a very long time.
There is only one drawback and one subjective callout. The exhaust note on a V6 isn't good and nothing you do will change that.
Don't waste money on exhaust because all you will do is make it louder or raspier. The subjective part is how the Turbos deliver the power.
THere is something to be said for the way a V8 delivers power vs the Turbo V6 and it's a preference thing. If you care more about HP and TQ
then you will LOVE the Raptor engine. If you prefer a throaty exhaust and the way a NA v8 delivers power vs the Turbo then you will need to make a choice.
For me the TQ HP and fuel mileage...in that order....are the most important. Trading off exhaust note seems like a no brainer.

San antonio is a very big city. at least 45 minutes to drive from one end to the other.

short lesson. EVERY city has ****** parts. stay away from the south side of san antonio, ****** as hell (and where lackland is se). not hard to do. I've been here 15 years and never go down there.


san antonio is very pro military without the drawbacks of typical outside military base towns which is super small and the only places to go are walmart, tattoo shops and ***** bars.

Though I miss the driftwood outside lejeune.....

I hear ya brother, and to be honest if I could my job in San Antonio I would be there in a heartbeat. I am currently working in another government capacity on March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley, California where the crime is insane. I live 30 minutes away and it is just fine.

I looked in San Antonio for a Gen 2 when i was selling my Gen 1 and they were priced like So-Cal. If i didn't have a complete Truck breakdown I would have driven to Kansas or another Raptor Friendly selling state but it just wasn't in the Cards.

I did see some good prices when I was working in El Paso recently and will see if i can find the dealer out there and post it up here. Appreciate the back and forth with you too, its always good to hear perspective from someone else who is currently in specific locations.

The guy that started the thread literally wrote that his truck was stolen 2 days ago. They take the trucks and send them to mexico, where they rip out the back seats and load as many illegals that will fit and try and sneak them across the border.

We travel to SA for son's baseball frequently, and stay at nice hotels. Each trip it's about 50/50 whether or not we hear that someone's truck got broken into. We were at a tournament at the Missions park and they were breaking into cars in the middle of the afternoon.

We just take anything of value out, carry good insurance, and hope for the best.

Interesting. Simply because I've been here 15 years and never even met anyone that had their vehicle stolen. Again, of course it happens, 7th largest city in the usa.

Maybe the license plate that says "combat action ribbon" is a good deterrent. There are many easier targets out there. Don't much care though.

If someone wants my truck, steal it. no big deal. Let usaa be pissed. it's why I pay for insurance.

Sorry to hear. That truck is probably south of the border now. SA has a lot of auto thefts and why I never venture into it.

But in TX most stolen vehicle is Ford pick-up

Get a Raptor, you'll love it.

If you purchase a 2019 try to get a build Date after March as earlier build dates might have the bad valve covers addressed under TSB 19-2232. I recently had to have mine changed and although it's not a difficult process for the Dealer to do the you must stop by the Dealer several times so the can monitor/ perform the oil consumption test if it were to be a truck with the out of spec valve covers due to a specific Vendor.

Just a friendly warning to avoid the possible issue all together simply by purchasing a 2019 with a later build Date as mentioned.
