Took this route a 'thousand' times...great little drive. I would come 290 out of Houston, stop for a Coke at the Buckee's in Basrtop, pick up 183 in Austin (if you are not adverse to tolls, take 183A in north Austin), stop at the DQ at the 4 way stop in Cross Plains and wha-la, the next thing you know you are in the SE part of Abilene.

Just remember, mind your speed thru those small towns.

Thanks. I always thought I-10 to 71 was the fastest to Bastrop. There is a great Burger Joint North of Bastrop though if you are coming through that way. If you are taking 290 out of Houston, isn't it fastest to bypass Bastrop, stay on 290, and then grab 183A going North?

Hey trey will you have the current Gps file on hand there? The one you posted on Facebook is the old one or at least I thought it was lol hahaha lakehouse

Haven't updated for the new section yet. Once I get up there I'll lay it out. The "Old" one is going to be like 95% accurate, there is only a few miles of change.
