been looking at all the popular brands. can't seem to find one that can be opened without
having to put the lift gate down first.

suggestions? don't want one that rolls up, they take up too much room at the front of the bed.

looked at the backflip G2. says it can be opened without opening the tailgate. but for the love of god i don't see a handle there

I have an MX4. Had it on my 2017 F150 for over 2 years and 40k miles. Now I have it on my Raptor. Pretty much just like new...can barely tell it's 2.5 years old.

I love it. Can't open it without opening the tailgate (which is great since it locks), fits great, nearly water-tight (I call BS on anyone that says theirs is fully water-tight). I can't imagine ever having a truck without one again.

Ive always used backflip you can get them shipped free and at discounts if you search. No its not always 100% water proof but does a good job here in Oregon. You have to open tail to open cover that being said they are also not theft proof all someone has to do is use a coat hanger to pull on wire inside when your tgate is locked and pop the backflip. So don't stor valuables too long in there just like you wouldent inside the cab. "smash and grab"

That is by design so there is some security from the cover to the items in the bed.

Except when there is a kehole leading to latch locks on top of the back of the cover. Like the one I had on my F150 10 years ago.

Looked just like a bakflip. except with a little key opening in the center of a twist handle to open the cover without opening the tailgate.

naturally I don't remember the name of the company. But it's a pretty simple concept.

Not exactly what you are looking for but extang encore has a lock in the front panel. Rear panel is still locked by the tailgate.

If you’re ever in Colorado I have a bakflip g2 in mint condition that I’m selling for $300 but because you have a scab I’d let it go for $200. I’m not interested in shipping it. I loved it but decided to go 2 spare chase rack.

BakFlip MX4, go to Tonneaucovers.com, it's $839, not the $996 BakFlip wanted...my 3rd one, fits great....I don't know why you need it to open w/o opening the tailgate though?
If it can open w/o the tailgate that could allow thieves to get in more easily, I would think....
MX4 is amazingly solid...
