I’d prefer one that the doesn’t allow for that as it adds more security. I had bad experiences w/ the bakflip type tonneaus (there are a few brands w/ near identical products- gator I think is another) - BUT I had one & the following issues came up: they’re not waterproof, you get water in @ the corners (in my GMC) & I think all of these are self-admittedly not water tight as they require some drainage tubes to be run out the back. These drainage tubes got clogged up w/ pollen/debris whatever & stunk like ass in summer humidity- I put bleach/simple green through em a number of times. Lastly the middle panel began to “delaminate” like the AL sheet was pulling away from the composite core + the weatherstripping that sealed the gaps in between each panel also began to fail after 2-3 years of use.
I also dislike any tonneau design that incorporates rails on the inside of your bed- they automatically mean a) no more sitting on the side of the bed during tailgate or just rummaging around in bed & b) while the amount of space you “lose” w/ the rails @ top is obviously negligible, now you gotta be careful about bulky/rugged stuff damaging/destroying those rails- how well do you think they’d hold up against PT 6x6” lumber smashing up & leaning against em?
My fav tri-fold has been the advantage hardhat tri-ford
Goes on top of rails, can remove super quickly, is not very heavy, can be clamped down very tight where it’d take some time/effort and/or a sawzall to get in lol- price is reasonable. It is 100% water tight in my experience, and you can put a little weight on top of it like a 25 lb tool box while it’s closed. Has a study AL frame & plastic inserts beneath the vinyl cover which makes the top stay nice & flat no wrinkling over the years etc
