I only seen something like that when my friend drove about 30 miles with a shortened welded, out of balance drive shaft. Junk yard repair Just to get home, till he could order a new race driveshaft. The vibration was so bad by time he got home it cracked the bell housing all the way around. There was no kind of vibrations before hand? Crazy it just cracked like that.

Not at all. Only vibration was right when it happened. Truck always rode smooth and no abnormal actions, besides developing the "clunk" recently and I was going to the dealer next week to resolve the issue.

So?? $2500 in labour?? Wtf. Anybody know the flat rate on a tranny re and re? Can't be more than 8 hrs tops!!

Are you sure that didn't include a complete cleaning of your ass from every tech?

I just got a quote for a tranny rebuild or swap. They estimate 12 hours just to pull and reinstall the tranny, in my area at 150$/hr (plus taxes, shop fees etc). The time to rebuild is open ended to a certain extent (we dont know what we will find...blah blah blah), but another 8 hours was deemed pretty much a given. If I take a new tranny the labour is still 12 hours for removal and install, but no rebuild time. Estimated 5k$ for rebuild and reinstall, 7k$ for new tranny installed (including 1500$ refund for the old core).

I agree with you on the labour rate, especially up north. What are you going to do? Rebuild or replace? Damn computerized tranny's cost so much these days.

Did you have any mods on the truck?

Try an SCT tuner, see if it does anything. Otherwise, drive it till it pukes its guts most likely, then a new one. As quoted the new one is more, but I figure once they pull this one apart the costs will go higher.

I bought the used tranny with 16k out of a donor Raptor for $2000. I decided to have it installed by a reputable transmission shop near me for $1000~. He said the used one looks good and doesn't appear to have any issues after going through it.

All together this is just about a $3700 fix for me, which is including the new driveshaft from KHC.

And @mike.s only mod is mid-perch
