Just now?

Is it me, or, does this stealership simply lack a basic understanding of customer impact and a general sense of urgency?

Idk about where OP lives, but here in Vegas, most dealers are 2-4 weeks out on appointments. Walk-in/Unscheduled tow ins such as this situation certainly have the potential to sit for a couple weeks before being touched. Combine that with it seeming like the dealer was basically following the ford techline instructions for "what to do next" it may have only gotten worked on a few hours a day over the course of a week due to the dealer waiting on tech line responses.

I had a 2011 Fx4 5.0. It took 5 weeks to get a new engine due to a persistent and loud ticking noise. Tech line first made dealer replace the water pump. then check oil pressure. Then pull one head. Then pull the other head. Then pull and disassemble the short block. At which point 2 bad rod bearings were found. An engine was ordered, took 6 business days to come in, and the truck was done 3 days after the engine arrived.

Your post is spot on. The truck was picked up on a Monday, and they told me the earliest they could look at it was Wednesday 2 days later, which is not bad actually. I believe they were following Ford troubleshooting recommendations, and they would report the info back to Ford before they received next steps. Sometimes it took a couple of days for them to hear back from Ford. Also, note that Thanksgiving was in there too.

At this point I am not going to give them a hard time. Hopefully the timeline they laid out for getting the part holds true.

Warranty work always takes longer than drive in cash work! Mostly because of the length of paperwork involved for claims and payment. Sounds like you are in very good hands at this dealer. Good luck with the replacement.

Final update (hopefully).

Picked up the truck today, with the new replacement transfer case installed. Seems to drive fine, I briefly tested all modes (2L, 4A, 4H, and 4L) once I got to my dirt road which is currently snow packed.

The work order says a shift fork broke, which in turn sent metal throughout, eventually clogging and then breaking the fluid pump, which starved the components, so massive breakage throughout the T-case. Why the shift fork broke I may never know, perhaps simply a defective part.

Warranty covered it so I am thankful.

That's great news, yeah, parts break, doesn't seem like its a highly common problem at least.
