TRADE 018 FOR 020? OR HOLD OUT FOR GEN3?

Looking for opinions and alittle knowledge

Ive got an 018 SCREW and my dealer has an 020 SCREW Im thinkin of trading in for

Are there significant differences? (re rear shocks...other??)or am I buying the same truck with less miles?

Will GEN3 be on dealer floors next year or yr after?

Love what I have now and cringe at the thought of transfering my airbags, comp0ressor, lights, rearbed TULE rack over to another if theres not much difference between the 018 and 020 GEN2's

I would think the next raptor is in summer 2021. Depends on if you can hold out. I would. I just got a 2020 802a $7k under msrp so they are out there but this is my first raptor. If I had an 18 I would exercise some patience. My buddy has an 18 and did mods to get it closer to the 19/20 shocks. He said the ride changed quite a bit. But I would still wait.

The Gen3 details are utterly unknown at this time. It’s all theory and speculation.

If there’s nothing wrong with what you have, why would you trade it in?

I traded my '18 for an equally equipped '20. Couple factors that made it worthwhile for me:

1. I was able to sell my '18 for $63,000 in 1 day after listing it locally on craigslist. It had 40,000 not-so-easy miles, driven properly in the desert durning it's relatively short tenure. It had a few nice upgrades, but nothing too significant.

2. I was able to find the EXACT truck I wanted at invoice locally here in California; the delta was less than $5k.

For me, getting into a fresh truck with 0 miles was more enticing than considering the upgrades of an '18 over a '20 — they're minimal. Considering the early model issues the Gen 1 and 2 had, I intend to keep this truck at least until a slight refresh is done on the Gen3 and the hysteria and subsequent ADM's have been eschewed, and I'll likely get a new truck then. If those criteria resonate with you at all I'd say go for it. However, if you're simply trading a great condition, low-mileage '18 for a '20 based on FLV alone, yeah, not really worth it.

If u are going to trade in now is the time to do it. They are giving ppl crazy high numbers for trade ins because of low used car inventory

Trade it in on a gen 1, use the extra cash for a s/c and suspension upgrade, will drive circles around your old gen 2 and whatever the future has, if there is one.

I personally wouldn’t consider such a trade. My ‘18 is paid off and the differences between 18 and 20 is for the most part, marginal. The live valve fox shocks being the most significant, which are certainly an improvement, but not game changing by all the reviews I’ve seen.

That said, I did learn a lesson on how Ford rolls out upgrades. When the gen 3 comes out I gonna spend the first couple years doing what the gen 1 guys do... Troll gen 3 owners and pretend my gen 2 is better. Then when the 3rd model year is available with all the mid cycle upgrades, I’ll trade up.
